RACE DISTANCES:

  • Grades 1 – 2: 1000M
  • Grades 3: 1500M
  • Grades 4 – 6: 2000M
  • Grades 7 – 8: 3000M

There is a +/- 300m allowance for each course

DATES AND LOCATIONS:

  • Qualifying Meets –Thurs October 5th @ Earl Bales Park (4169 Bathurst St. just south of Sheppard).
  • Conference Finals – Monday October 16th @Earl Bales Park for grades 3-8 runners and teams who qualified from the qualifying meets
  • City Championships – Thursday October 26th @ Etobicoke Centennial Park for grades 4-8 runners and teams that qualify.

STARTING TIME: Qualifying meets - first races at 10:00am – grade 1 girls then grade 1 boys, grade

2 girls etc. up to grade 8 girls with the final race being grade 8 boys

Conference Finals- grade 3 girls race at 10:00am followed by grade 3 boys

Then grade 4 girls etc., up to grade 8 girls followed by grade 8 boys.

ATHLETE UNIFORMS:

Coaches may bring as many runners that are regularly training. No walkers please. Ensure asthmatics are carrying their puffers and students who carry epipens have them in a waist pack while running. Know if any runners have diabetes and take proper precautions.

Please have your students wear t-shirts that identify their school.

REMINDERS FOR RACE DAY:

Please tell parents and children not to cross any areas that have been roped off

Coaches and parents must stay back from start line

Each school will have a spot on the start line for 4 runners with more spots possible at the starter’s discretion

No running or cycling beside/behind runners. Stand in place and cheer only

Please do not bring soccer balls/footballs or other sports equipment

ELIGIBILITY AND MEET QUALIFICATION:

1. Qualifying meets – schools may bring as many runners as they wish that are training regularly with their team.

2. Top 40 runners and top four teams will qualify for the Conference Finals from each qualifying meet.

3. Top three teams and the top 20 individuals not on a top 3 team will qualify for the TDESAA Championships @ Centennial Park.

TEAM SCORING:

Top 4 runners in each race per school make up the team result. This score is calculated by adding

each schools’ best four finishers. The lower the score, the better. In the event of a tie, the better

Placed 4 th runner is used to break the tie. Teams that qualify can bring their top 5 runners to the

next meet. Please record the placing of each of your runners in case we need help with the results.

AWARDS:

Qualifying Meets – 1 st – 10 th Ribbons / 11 th – final runner get Participation Ribbons

Conference Finals – 1 st – 3 rd Medals / 4 th – 10 th Ribbons / 11 th – final runner get Participation

Ribbons / Top 3 Teams Crests / Top Team school banner

Grade 1’s and 2’s will only receive a participation ribbon at the qualifying meet

TRANSPORTATION:

  • Buses - available for Bedford Park students from grade 3 to grade 8
  • Parent Drivers – responsible for taking your child(ren) in grade 1 and grade 2 to and from the Earl Bales Meet

PARKING:

There are over 350 parking spots at Earl Bales, but they will fill up early (by 10:30 am)

Parents may park on the following roads for up to 3 hours (if tires are chalked) without receiving a ticket:

NORTH - Don Valley Blvd enter South of Sheppard and turn right into a large parking lot. Short walk up a hill on a paved path to the start line
WEST -Bainbridge Ave - parking OK past Yeomans Rd
Ellison Ave - parking on South side only
Danby Ave - parking on North side past Yeomans Rd
Yeomans Rd - parking on both sides
Reiner Rd - parking OK on South side
McAllister - parking OK on South side and both sides past Yeomans Rd
Harlock Blvd - parking OK on both sides
Hammell St - parking OK on grass
Alexis Blvd - parking OK on both sides.

PLAYING REGULATIONS:

  • Spikes or cleats allowed for grades 7 & 8 students only. Grades 1-6 must wear running shoes
  • No headphones with ipods, mp3 players etc.
  • Students must run with the gender and grade they are in
  • New courses at Earl Bales this year – maps attached

SEVERE WEATHER CANCELLATIONS:

  • We do not cancel the meets because of rain. If there are thunderstorms in the forecast, (>50%) then the meet will be cancelled and rescheduled. A message will be emailed to all coaches by 6:15 am the day of the meet Have a plan in place to cancel busses and supply teachers.
