Title:STOP THE TRAFFIK Design & Communications Intern

Hours:Full Time (or at least 3 days/week)

Duration:4 Months starting from Monday 24thAugust

Expenses:London travel expenses only (Zone 1-3)

Working with:Global and UK team based in the HQ office in central London

STOP THE TRAFFIK is a growing global movement of individuals, third sector, businesses and community groups campaigning to prevent human trafficking.

We prevent human trafficking through;

  1. Local action: people are trafficked from a community and into a community, therefore the community must work together to prevent it.
  1. Building a global movement; around the world people from all sectors of society unite to take action locally, nationally and internationally.
  1. Campaigning for change; we equip people to understand what trafficking is, how it affects them and what they can do about it through global campaigns.

This internship role is to work closely with the team to reach, inspire and equip a global grassroots movement to take action and prevent trafficking in their local communities.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Daily social media activity and content; spreading our message, reaching new audiences, joining in conversations and engaging people to be part of STOP THE TRAFFIK
  1. Designing and sourcing content for social media and other required resources using Photoshop and InDesign.
  2. To assist with developing and updating website content and resources
  1. To assist with thecreationof new resources – i.e. lesson plans, flyers and presentations for use by STOP THE TRAFFIK staff and/or activists and STOP THE TRAFFIK groups – in terms of design and copywriting
  1. Research relevant information for campaigns or communications as required.
  1. Writing blogs and keeping up-to-date with human trafficking in the news. Creating current, interesting opinion pieces for the STOP THE TRAFFIK blog spot.
  1. Looking for new opportunities to expand our digital reach; keeping an eye on trends and new platforms that might be beneficial to STOP THE TRAFFIK
  1. Participate in and assist at STOP THE TRAFFIK events, including public speaking, school lesson delivery, workshops and running stands / stalls.
  1. To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested, including occasionally assisting on daily administration (phone, e-mail, letters and processing merchandise orders), and to work alongside all members of staff, interns and volunteers.

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Job Knowledge / An understanding of basic issues around human trafficking / Awareness of STOP THE TRAFFIK
Knowledge and understanding of campaigning
Experience / Experience of using social media either in your own personal networks or previous work experience
Past experience of being an activistor supporter for an issue / campaign or organisation / To demonstrate competency in any of the following:
-Effective use of social media
-Writing for diverse audiences
-Graphic design
-Conducting research
-Public speaking / training
Previous experience updating website content
Skills / Excellent oral and written English
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of audiences
Excellent administration and organisation
Ability to use design software (InDesign) to create and adapt publications
Ability to use Photoshop to create eye-catching images for social media
Ability to use Microsoft Office / Ability to use Illustrator and video editing skills would be advantageous
Other attributes / Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised
Mature and flexible approach
Team player
Willing to learn and try new things / Passionate about human rights issues
