NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - UNIFORMED PATROL DIVISION

01-01-08, 823 NW 7 Street, Deceased (Shot) Dog, 08-93

A German Shepard was found deceased as a result of a gun shot. Apparently, the dog escaped from its owner’s residence. There are no suspects.

ISD: An anonymous witness advised the suspect intentionally shot the dog, but the witness is uncooperative. Our detective is investigating the suspect on unrelated charges due to violating the Sex Offender Registration Law.

01-02-08, 900 NW 8 Avenue, Burglary, City property, 08-143

The suspects pried open the roll up door to the storage area and attempted to remove the service vehicle. However, the suspects were unable get the vehicle outside the fenced area. The approximate amount of damage is $2000.00.

ISD: There were no witnesses, no video, and no traceable evidence, so having exhausted all investigative leads this case is closed.

01-03-08, 700 NE 8 Avenue, Aggravated Assault L.E.O., 08-252

While conducting a narcotics investigation, the suspect placed his vehicle in drive and intentionally attempted to run over officers to facilitate his escape. The suspect was apprehended a short time later without injuries.

ISD: This case was investigated and sworn taped statements were obtained. The case was forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

01-07-08, 609 N.W. 8 Avenue, Vehicle Fire, 08-800

A sports utility vehicle was found engulfed in flames on City property. City arson investigators responded after the fire was extinguished. There were no injuries.

ISD: City Fire Marshall Aleman, the State Fire Marshall and the ISD Arson Investigator are investigating the incident as a possible Arson. The case remains under investigation.

01-10-08, 100 NW Avenue, Robbery By Sudden Snatching,08-1266

The suspect approached the victim and made conversation. Without warning, the suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and fled the area. There were no injuries.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

01-11-08, 312 North Federal Highway, Robbery, 08-1401

The victim was using her phone when the suspect approached and snatched it from her. The suspect fled the area. The area was searched with no contact with the suspect. The approximate value of the phone was listed as $70.00.

ISD: During the course of the investigation the suspect was positively identified via a photo lineup and a sworn taped statement was given. Probable cause was established and the suspect was arrested and charged accordingly.

01-12-08, 514 SW 2 Avenue, Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence, 08-1595

During a domestic disturbance, the suspect armed himself with a steak knife and attempted to cut the victim. However, the victim was able to take the knife away from the suspect. Officers recovered the knife and after obtaining statements the suspect was arrested.

ISD: The detective obtained a sworn taped statement and forwarded the case to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

01-10-08, 2501 E. Hallandale Beach Blvd., Robbery, 08-1234

The suspect made conversation with the victim and when the victim started walking away, the suspect grabbed the car keys from the victim. The suspect ran to the victim’s car and stole it striking the victim in the leg by the car door as she gave chase. The victim sustained a large contusion on her leg.

ISD: An officer located the stolen vehicle and followed it, at which time the occupants fled the scene; but the driver was detained. The detective responded and obtained sworn taped statements and the suspect was positively identified in a photo lineup as the individual who committed the robbery. The suspect was charged accordingly and the case was forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

01-18-08, 709 NE 5 Street, #5, Aggravated Battery, 08-2274

The suspect and victim are roommates and were having arguments over finances. The suspect began chasing the victim. The victim slipped and fell at which time the suspect began beating the victim with a broomstick. The victim sustained lacerations to the face and the suspect was arrested.

ISD: The detective met with the victim and witness and obtained taped statements. The suspect was charged accordingly and the file was sent to the State Attorney’s Office.

01-18-08, 1101 West Hallandale Beach Blvd., Business Burglary,Guitar Center, 08-2317

Suspects pried the rear door open and removed several thousand dollars worth of merchandise.

ISD: This case has been assigned to a detective and is currently under investigation.

01-21-08, 300 SW 11 Street, Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile,08-2608

The suspect was stopped and arrested for a traffic violation. During the inventory search of the vehicle, a .22 caliber handgun was found hidden under the hood.

ISD: The detective conducted an Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (ATF) trace on the firearm. This case was completed and forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

01-23-08, 800-900 Blk.NW 10 Street, Dangerous Dog, 08-2921

A vicious dog was running lose in the neighborhood and as officers approached the dog, it attacked. One officer discharged his firearm, missing the animal. The dog was contained and controlled with a taser deployment. The dog was turned over to animal control with no injuries.

01-26-08, 408 NW 10 Street, Vehicle Fire, 08-3290

A vehicle was found burning in a vacant lot. A witness observed two suspects fleeing from the scene. The fire was determined to be arson.

ISD: This case is pending awaiting the results from the investigation from the City Fire Marshall Aleman.

01-26-08, 224 SW 10 Street, #N, Burglary, Recovered Stolen Property, 08-3333

Officers responded to the location and contacted the suspects. During questioning, it was revealed they burglarized a home. The property was recovered and the suspects arrested.

ISD: The detective met with the suspects and victim, at which time he obtained taped statements from them. The suspect was arrested and charged accordingly. The case was forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.

01-28-08, 501 SE 1 Avenue(Bluesten Park), Battery, 08-3674

The suspect struck a park employee. The suspect initially reported the employee struck him. However, a witness disputed that information. There were no injuries.

ISD: A detective is currently investigating this case.

01-30-08, 512 NE 1 Court, Lot #6, Robbery, 08-4001

The victim was walking in the parking lot when she was approached by three suspects who pushed her to the ground and searched her for money and jewelry. The suspects fled and the victim sustained minor injuries.

ISD: This case was investigated and because the victim cannot identify the suspects and has signed a waiver of liability, there are no solvability factors and the case is closed.

NOTEWORTHY INCIDENTS - SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION (SOD)

The Special Operations Division is currently working a joint investigation with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

The SOD Detectives assisted Davie Police Department with an investigation into a narcotics trafficker. Detectives confiscated (300) Oxycotin pills, (street value $1,800) and arrested the suspect, who was subsequently charged with trafficking in Oxycotin. Additionally, a second investigation was conducted wherein an additional two suspects were arrested. One suspect was charged with one count of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and the second suspect was charged with a narcotics related active warrant. Two grams of powder cocaine with a street value of $200 was confiscated.

DEPARTMENT VACANCIES

The Police Department had the following vacancies through the month of January: (16) Police Officers, (2) Part-time Police Officers and (5) Community Service Aides.
