PROPOSED COURSES
You will be asked to complete information regarding your proposed courses in the input boxes below. Please review the following instructions and guidelines before completing the course section of this application.
For all courses, please provide:
§ A short paragraph description of your courses and how the courses will benefit from the locality.
§ How you can incorporate student engagement in the host culture in your courses.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The description should be brief and helpful to the committees who will be reviewing your application. When describing your courses, please be sure to include information on how the courses would be taught in the international location. Please discuss how the courses will benefit from the locality and incorporate specific examples of sites, trips, or events you would like to include. Please note: in selecting which courses to offer at a particular location, International Programs and the selection committees will pay special consideration to this information in evaluating how well a course is suited to a location and how the applying faculty member has adapted the course to make use of resources available in the international setting.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
In an effort to promote student engagement in the host culture, and to expand the number of courses which meet the requirements of the International area of Garnet and Gold Scholar Society, we encourage you to incorporate the following Student Learning Objectives into your course(s):
§ Describe at least one culture beyond their own and describe how their worldview is not universal.
§ Explain their own cultural identity and describe their culture to people from cultures different than their own.
§ Interpret cultural similarities, differences and their interrelatedness.
§ Demonstrate effective intercultural communication by collaborating with others whose culture is different from their own and reflecting upon the experience.

Due to main campus obligations, most faculty and program leader applications are for either summer or spring break programs. We are happy to accept applications for fall or spring semesters, but there are several complicating factors that often prevent them from occurring. These factors include visa/immigration issues, compensation issues, housing constraints, low student enrollments, and getting released from main campus responsibilities.

PROGRAM FLEXIBILITY
While we wish to accommodate the first requests of as many applicants as possible, doing so is challenging. We must balance a number of factors, including number of classes based on predicted enrollments, prior class enrollments, future class enrollment predictions, balance of disciplines/class offerings, local contractual obligations/labor requirements, etc.
We know not everyone is able to provide alternatives or options due to other commitments or preferences. However, if you are flexible about what you teach, where you teach and/or when you teach, it is extremely helpful to us in the selection process. Flexibility may increase your chances of teaching abroad.
