A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MR. ROBERT SCARBOROUGH OF NORTH, FOR HIS DEDICATION TO THE FIELD OF EDUCATION, UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

Whereas, Robert Scarborough for seventeen years has worked with the South Carolina Association of School Administrators to expand and improve the professional preparation of the state’s education leaders and the effective operation of the state’s schools; and

Whereas, Robert Scarborough for nine years of that time has served as executive director of the association, enriching the professional development offerings for education administrators, building depth into the statewide conferences, and expanding leadership opportunities for educators; and

Whereas, prior to this, he served the people of South Carolina through the office of Earl Morris, the South Carolina Comptroller General; and

Whereas, he was the first leader of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators to serve on the South Carolina Board of Education, where he helped to establish, for that body, a direction which was more strongly supportive of public education; and

Whereas, Robert Scarborough, a graduate of the second class of Leadership South Carolina, organized Leadership Orangeburg through the local chamber of commerce, chairing the program for its first five years; and

Whereas, he also has served the people of Orangeburg County as its first county administrator, and at that time, was one of the youngest county administrators in the nation; and

Whereas, this talented and capable man, as Orangeburg County Administrator, instituted a major renovation of the county courthouse, computerized county finances, established a central purchasing controls, and overhauled the public works department, bringing greater efficiencies to the management of public funds; and

Whereas, he chaired the Orangeburg County Development Commission in developing successful continuing partnerships with Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and the South Carolina State Development Board, for the establishment of new economic opportunities for Orangeburg County citizens; and

Whereas, in addition to all his other activities, Robert Scarborough served education and the citizens of Orangeburg County as a member of the Orangeburg County School Board; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to thank this outstanding South Carolinian for all his contributions to the Orangeburg community and the State of South Carolina upon the occasion of his retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor and recognize Mr. Robert Scarborough of North, for his dedication to the field of education, upon his retirement as Executive Director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Robert Scarborough.
