St. John’s Messenger
Volume 95, Issue 8 August 19, 2015

Dear St. John’s Church family and friends,

It’s wonderful to sit here in my new office, enjoying the beautiful paint job (thanks, Dominic!) and watching the activity in the community outside my windows. It’s a peaceful location, here at Third and Wheatley in Northumberland…..

I must say that our ministry partnership began with a flurry of activity! While I was unpacking boxes, hanging pictures, and sorting through files, I was also very busy with pastoral acts. I’m still doing the unpacking, but it’s been wonderful getting to know you and walking through your lives in Sunday worship, marriages, funerals, baptisms, counseling, visits….being a part of God’s grace and love in your daily ministries.

I was raised Patricia Annette Triplett (for you with memories of the “Mouseketeers,” my middle name came from Annette Funicello). I grew up on a farm in the countryside of Winchester, Virginia (in a small community called Mountain Falls). I have two sisters (one older than me, one younger) – Sharon and DeeDee, and a brother who is the eldest of all of us, Butch. My mother, Joann, joined the Lord in the saints triumphant in 1999, and my father, Bill Triplett, still lives in Winchester, now in the city limits. We’ve come a long way from that little farm, but oh, does it bless our lives in our many places.

I am married to Pastor Keith Pittsnogle, who serves St. Matthew’s in Shamokin Dam and St. Paul’s (Erdley’s) in Middleburg. Our marriage is the second for both of us. We have six children from our former marriages: John Tharp and his wife, Rachel, and their sons Dylan and Ian; Jeremy Tharp and his wife, Cecily, and their son Finn; Justin Tharp; Ashley Pittsnogle, Karen Pittsnogle, and Justin Pittsnogle. (We have two Justins in our family!) Our kids are in their 20s and 30s, very active in work and play. Our grandkids are ages 18 (Dylan), 15 (Ian), and 7 (Finn). John & his family, Justin T., Karen, and Justin P. all live in West Virginia. Ashley lives in New York (not the city), and Jeremy and his family live in Oregon. Keith’s parents, Larry and Almeda Pittsnogle, live in Chambersburg (PA). We travel home once a month to connect with most of the family.

This is a blessed place, dear partners in ministry. I am looking forward to years of joy, growth, and discovering the many ways God has called us together to do the work Jesus has given us to do. Please introduce yourself to me if you haven’t already. I’m very open to sitting with you, talking about your stories of St. John’s and your families, and learning how God has been moving in our lives prior to my coming to serve God with you.

Throughout my ordained ministry, I have considered my call from God to be “walking through the barnyards of life and talking about the ministry of manure.” It’s definitely a seed planted in my days on the farm. J Yet even now, it’s a call from God to know that even the “stuff” of life that doesn’t always seem pleasant has a Godly purpose and a direction for us.

I’m looking forward to discovering with you God’s purpose and direction for our ministry here at St. John’s – and celebrating ALL the activity in the “barnyards” we know.

See you in church!

Pastor Pat J

“When (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’”

(Luke 4:16-19 – Jesus’ purpose statement)
