Social Media Guru
Approx 20 – 25 hours per month

StartGiving is seeking a Creative Writing devotee to elevate our storytelling. Under the direction of our founders and our engagement coach, you’ll couple the latest strategies with a mix of media to engage, grow, and diversify our audience with the final goal to tell our story as concise and clear as possible.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic self-starter who flexes excellent communication and organizational skills. Enthusiasm for Social Impact and Corporate Social Responsibility are a must for this position – you want to make a change! Above all, the right candidate has a desire to grow our audience through exciting, engaging storytelling, whether that be on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn or our own landing page & blog.

We are an incredibly young non-profit startup looking to revolutionize Corporate Social Responsibility. We give you freedom of ideas, suggestions and authority to make meaningful and measurable improvements.

Responsible

  • Post to and monitor a range of social media accounts, simultaneously
  • Help grow video views, social reach, and engagement
  • Engage with (talk to!) our readers and communities
  • Propose creative, platform-specific projects and initiatives
  • Create media to accompany our stories on social, like gifs, quote images, and platform-specific graphics
  • Spot social media trends, including new platforms and changes to existing ones
  • Monitor metrics and optimize strategy
  • Regularly compile analytics for social initiatives
  • With the founders, brainstorm search-friendly headlines and social-friendly copy

Skilled

  • Demonstrated ability to write creatively and concise
  • Experience managing social media in content publishing or for a brand;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to juggle several simultaneous tasks
  • Enthusiasm for change, and corresponding flexibility with workflow
  • Expertise in mainstream social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter)
  • General understanding of the evolving social media landscape and ongoing desire to stay on top of changes to platforms and best practices
  • The ability to work well both independently and with others, and handle multiple simultaneous projects with various lead times
  • Impeccable grammar and writing skills: You don’t need to be closely edited
  • An enthusiastic work ethic: pragmatic, pro-active – a doer!
  • Fluent in English & German

  • Work with Curbed city site editors on social best practices
  • With editors, brainstorm search-friendly headlines and social-friendly copy
  • Work with other engagement teams across Vox Media to share best practices and sharpen your skills
  • Learn from and contribute to a collaborative editorial team

Required skills and experience

  • Demonstrated ability to write social-friendly copy
  • Experience managing social media in content publishing or for a brand; social video experience is a bonus. (We’re looking for about two years experience, and are open to what this means for you.)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to juggle several simultaneous tasks
  • Enthusiasm for change, and corresponding flexibility with workflow
  • Working knowledge of mainstream social platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter) and expertise with at least two of those platforms
  • General understanding of the evolving social media landscape and ongoing desire to stay on top of changes to platforms and best practices
  • The ability to work well both independently and with others, and handle multiple simultaneous projects with various lead times
  • Impeccable grammar and writing skills: You don’t need to be closely edited.
