Abstract

This Microsoft Test Lab Guide (TLG) provides step-by-step instructions to configure Cluster-Aware Update in the Windows Server 2012 Base Configuration for Private Cloud test lab, using computers running Windows Server 2012.

This lab demonstrates Cluster Aware Update in a failover cluster inWindows 2012.

Step 1: Configure the Windows Server 2012 Base Configuration for Private Cloud lab

Use the instructions in Test Lab Guide:Windows Server 2012 Base Configuration for Private Cloudto configure the Hyper-V hosts HV1 andHV2 and the DC1,APP1, and CLIENT1 virtual machines.

Step 2: Configure the Cluster Shared Volume using Starwind Software

Use the instructions in Test Lab Guide:Create Cluster Shared Volume using Starwind Software to configure the Hyper-V hosts HV1 andHV2 and create anHVCL cluster.

Step 3: Configure Cluster-Aware Update

In this step, you will configure hosts HV1 andHV2 for Cluster-Aware Update

  1. Configure Windows Update for HV1 and HV2 touse Microsoft Windows Update or an internal WSUS server (recommended).
  2. Delete one simple update from each host, using the update history.
  3. Log on to the HV1 server as theCORP\user1 user account.
  4. Press the Windows logo key and type Clustertostart Cluster-Aware Update.
  5. In the Cluster-Aware Updating window, under Connect to a failover cluster, type HVCLand click Connect (see picture below).
  6. In the same window, click on Configure cluster self-updating options.
  7. In the Getting started window, click Next.
  8. In Add clustered Role, selectAdd the CAU clustered role, with self-updating mode enabled, and then clickNext(see picture below).
  9. In Self-updating schedule, clickNext (see picture below).
  10. In Advanced Options,clickNext.
  11. In Confirmation OK,click Next and then clickClose.
  12. After configuration, you should see the picture below.
  13. In the Cluster-Aware Updating window, start Preview updates for this cluster. Click Generate Update Preview Listin the HVCL-Preview Updates window. (See picture below.)
  14. Click Apply Update on this clusterin the Cluster-Aware Updating window.
  15. In theCluster-Aware Updating Wizard window, click Next.
  16. In Advanced Options, select Give me recommended updates the same way that I receive importantupdates, and then click Next.
  17. In the Confirmation window, click Update to start the update process, and then clickClose after completion.
  18. For advanced information, click Log of Updates in Progress tab.
