PART 3EXECUTION

{PREP}

3.__ SURFACE PREPARATION

  1. Prepare joints in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions.
  1. New concrete must be a minimum of 28 days old. The joint must be clean and sound. All oil, dirt, debris, paint, curing and sealing compounds and any other material that could be a bond breaker must be removed. All joint facings must possess an open surface texture with all curing compounds and sealers removed. If this product will be used for filling floor cracks, the cracks shall be routed to a minimum ¼” (0.63 cm) wide and deep. Saw cut joints in concrete and/or asphalt shall be thoroughly flushed with water under pressure. The joint shall then be blown dry with un-oiled compressed air to remove all debris from sawing. Joints shall be completely dry prior to placement of joint filler/sealant.

{APPLICATION}

4.__ JOINT FILLER/SEALANT APPLICATION

  1. Ensure that all necessary preparation work is completed, mix and apply joint filler/sealant in accordance with manufacturer’s written instructions. Pour or gun the mixed material into the joint using a bulk caulking gun. Apply the material from the bottom of the joint upward to minimize voids or air pockets. Any topping off or subsequent retooling shall be completed prior to the product achieving its final set. When used as a traffic loop sealant, start at the highest elevation and place material into the sawed joint until it is filled to 2/3 of its depth. Allow to settle around wires. Immediately thereafter make a second application to completely fill the slot.

{CLEANUP}

  1. Remove debris related to application of sealants from project site per applicable regulations for hazardous waste disposal.

{PROTECTION}

  1. Protect work from contaminating substances and damage resulting from other construction operations or other causes so that sealed joints are without deterioration or damage at time of project completion.
