CHURCH ORGANIST/PIANIST

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Church Organist/Pianist works with the Pastor(s), the Director of Music to plan musical support for the congregation’s worship. The Church Organist/Pianist has the following responsibilities:
1. Worship Leadership
a. Provide hymn and response accompaniment, choir accompaniment, preludes and postludes to support worship for two Sunday morning services each week, Ash Wednesday evening, Maundy Thursday evening, Thanksgiving Eve, two services on Christmas Eve, and for other occasional services authorized by the Worship Council. If an occasional or new service becomes a continuing part of the worship of the church, the Church Organist/Pianist’s salary will be renegotiated.
b. Provide piano or organ accompaniment for choir rehearsals one weekday evening (Thursday) and on Sunday mornings, September through June.
c. The Church Organist/Pianist will receive additional compensation for weddings, funerals and memorial services according to a policy authorized by the Consistory. If the Organist/Pianist is unable to play for one of these services, the Organist/Pianist will arrange for a substitute.
2. Additional Responsibilities
a. Certify and orient other organists who wish to play the church's organ.
b. Per the church’s agreement with Allen Organs, facilitate organ performances, demonstrations and consultation to visitors.
AVAILABILITY AND VACATION
1. The Church Organist/Pianist position is based upon a task-to-be-accomplished-criteria, without specified hours. We expect seasonal variation in the weekly hours required.
2. The Church Organist/Pianist is granted four (4) Sundays of vacation annually with the approval of the Pastor assigned that responsibility by the Consistory. Except under exceptional circumstances, vacation will not be granted during Advent, on Christmas Eve, on Palm Sunday or Easter. The Church Organist/Pianist will be responsible for securing a substitute.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND REVIEW
1. The Church Organist/Pianist serves under the supervision of the Pastor assigned that responsibility by the Consistory.
2. The Church Organist/Pianist will be expected to adhere to the church’s personnel policy.
3. The Church Organist/Pianist’s contract may be terminated at any time without cause, by either the church or the Music Director, provided written notice is provided at least 60 days inclusive of eight Sundays in advance.
