DITC PhD student Dr Marco Mazevet invited to Slovakia and France for participation in promoting caries prevention.
Slovak Dental Days
The Slovak Dental chamber hosted its annual congress from the 4th to the 7th of October in Šamorín, Slovakia.
Dr Marco Mazevet was invited by the chamber to present the Alliance’s recent activities, including the presentation of the Policy Lab held in June. The participants showed an interest regarding the variety of initiatives led by the different chapters, and the importance of adopting evidence based guidelines and protocols, such as the ICCMSTM.
Professor Markovska, head of the Slovakian Chapter, presented the newly published national recommendations for cavity free prevention. These guidelines have been published in a booklet that will allow the dental to understand the best available evidence, translated into their national language.
World Cavity Free Future Day Webcast
Dr Mazevet presented the activities of the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future, the data on the global burden of the disease and how fields such as nutrition, evidence based research, clinical practice need to be joined. More than 700 people attended the Webinar, from more than 15 countries.
The findings of the recent ‘Policy Lab’, a 24h health economics and policy event, was presented in order to identify the current knowledge gaps to provoke a policy change in favour of prevention based treatment systems. You can read more about the Policy Lab and its findings here.

Health Economics / Public Health Symposium: French Dental Confederation of Dental Trade Unions (CNSD)
Dr Mazevet also attended the Health Economics symposium on Friday the 13th of October, 2017 in Paris. This event, hosted by one of France’s Dental Trade Unions, had the objectives of raising the awareness of the current state of evidence regarding caries prevention, evidence based guidelines, and the current knowledge gaps in dental health economics. Following three presentations by Dr Mazevet, PrLupi (Head of Nice Dental School) and PrTubert-Jeanin (Head of Clermont Ferrand Dental School and President Elect of the ADEE), participants were separated into three groups. Each of the groups attended the three workshops lead by the speakers.
Dr Mazevet lead the “Creating a prevention based protocol with new payment systems” workgroup, which had the objectives of informing participants on the new payment systems that have been tried out in Dentistry, such has capitation based, performance based, or weighed capitation systems.
