Clinical Scientist in Radiation Protection

This post provides an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary group that provides radiation protection services and scientific support for the use of both Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiations. As a member of the Radiology Physics Group the post holder will be part of an extended team responsible for the delivery of high quality Ionising and Non-ionising Radiation Protection, Quality Assurance and scientific support services to departments within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS and commercial organisations within South Yorkshire and beyond.
The emphasis of this post is the delivery of efficient, high-quality Radiation Protection services to users of sealed and unsealed sources. We require applicants who can rise to the challenge of delivering a multisite/multi-customer service. The Group currently provides radiation protection services to 6 nuclear medicine departments including three radiopharmacies, nuclear medicine therapy, PET/CT and research, as well as commercial waste processing organisations and academic institutions. Duties will include the inspection of nuclear medicine and laboratory departments, scientific supervision of dosimetry, laboratory and instrument calibration services, and scientific assistance to radioactive waste management and radon protection services.
Participation in the development of services and procedures, support for research and development programs and active involvement in teaching and training will be expected. Encouragement will be given to the right candidate to complete an RPA and/or RWA portfolio.
Applications are invited from Clinical Scientists who have completed or are expecting to complete the Scientific Training Program and from individuals qualified to degree level in a physical science with experience in radiation protection. The role will allow the successful applicant to consolidate and extend training in radiation protection including the potential for development of competence in X-ray and non-ionising radiation protection. Candidates who have yet to complete the Scientific Training Program, or have different experience may be considered at a lower grade.
