KIRKWOOD, NY…The Big Block/Small Block Modifieds roar back to action this Saturday night in one has been one of the most competitive early season starts in many years. In fact all of the divisions at Five Mile Point Speedway thus far in 2016 have seen tremendous competition. A back to back weekend of racing gets underway at 6 p.m. on Saturday with the stars of open wheel micro sprint racing taking center stage on Sunday. Racing on Sunday begins at 5 p.m.
The Modified division has seen three different winners in three races so far this season. On Saturday another big field of Modified talent is expected to converge on the quarter mile clay oval. The teams will be ready to get at it as this is the first Modified race since May 7th at the speedway. Several tracks in the northeast are idle this Saturday so a number of new faces are planning on be part of the action for the 30 lap feature event. Danny Creeden, Mike Dougherty Jr. and Shaun Walker have collected the feature wins but its Nick Petrilak currently leading the Modified point standings.
Action in the upstart Crate Sportsman division has been equally competitive. In four races so far this season there have been four different feature winners. Kyle Rohner is the current point leader in the division. He has one feature win as does Greg McCloskey, Brad Cicio and Andrew Smith.
James Cornell leads the IMCA Modified point standings with one feature win. Like the Modifieds and Sportsman there has yet to be a repeat winner this season. Matt Cole and Keith Lamphere also have netted victories.
Chuck Culbertson leads the way in the Factory Stock division. He is the defending Track Champion. Kenny Underwood is the Lightning Cat Expert point leader, with Amanda Brigham leading the way in the Novice Lightning Cats. Defending Track Champion Dalton Maynard is the current Slingshot point leader. All divisions will be in action on Saturday.
Fans that return to see the big Sunday afternoon card of racing will automatically save $5 off admission by just showing their Saturday night rain check. Racing on Sunday begins at 5 p.m. with the NY6A 600 Winged Sprints, 270 Winged Sprints, 600 non winged Sprints, Mod Lites, Slingshots and FWD 4 Cylinders. The FWD 4 Cylinder winner will earn a Guaranteed Starting Spot for the November 5th Colossal Cat event that will pay a whopping $1,000 to the winner.
