Hillary Clinton
Immigration / We need comprehensive immigration reform with a path to full and equal citizenship. If Congress won't act, I'll defend President Obama’s executive actions—and I'll go even further to keep families together. I'll end family detention, close private immigrant detention centers, and help more eligible people become naturalized. / · “Let's take on the challenge of systemic racism, invest in communities of color and finally pass comprehensive immigration reform,” Clinton said.
· “I am committed to introducing comprehensive immigration reform and a path to legitimate citizenship within the first 100 days of my presidency,” Clinton said.
· Clinton added that she felt “if we do comprehensive immigration reform and we invest in infrastructure... we are going to have more than enough jobs for everybody. That is what we want in America, because I want everybody to have jobs with purpose and dignity.”
Foreign policy / As secretary of state, I worked to restore America’s leadership in the world. As president, my top priority will be to keep us safe and defend our values. That includes maintaining a cutting-edge military, strengthening our alliances, being firm but wise with our rivals, cultivating new partners, defeating ISIS, and enforcing the Iran nuclear deal. / · “We and our allies must work hand in hand to dismantle the networks that move money and propaganda and arms and fighters across the world,” Clinton said.
· “It is critical that the United States and Britain, two of the world's oldest and greatest democracies, stand together against hatred and violence,” Clinton said.
· “For decades, Republican and Democratic administrations have understood that America's alliances make us stronger,” Clinton told the Stanford audience in March.
Health care / I've fought for quality, affordable health care my entire career. As president, I'll defend the Affordable Care Act, build on its successes, and go even further to reduce costs. My plan will crack down on drug companies charging excessive prices, slow the growth of out-of-pocket costs, and provide a new credit to those facing high health expenses. / · “It is time to deal with skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs and runaway prescription drug prices,” Hillary Clinton said on Sept. 22 when rolling out her health care proposal.
· “When Americans get sick, high costs shouldn't prevent them from getting better,” said Clinton in a statement provided by the campaign.
· “If you are a woman, for the first time, you don't pay more for your health care than men... that why I am so dedicated to building on and improving the Affordable Care Act,” said Clinton.
Economy and jobs / We need to raise pay, create good-paying jobs, and build an economy that works for everyone—not just those at the top. I’ll cut taxes for the middle class, raise the minimum wage, and ensure the wealthiest pay their fair share. I’ll invest in infrastructure, clean energy, and education. And I’ll help parents balance work and family. / · “I will say 'no' to new trade agreements unless they create American jobs, raise wages and improve our national security,” Clinton reiterated this week in response to a questionnaire from the Pennsylvania Fair Trade Coalition.
· “We've got to create more good-paying jobs, we've got to raise incomes. We've got to give young people chances to start small businesses, to be entrepreneurs, to chart their own future,” Clinton said.
· “On the economic front, let's raise that minimum wage,” Clinton said.
Environment / Climate change is real—no matter what climate deniers say. I've laid out bold national goals to address the threats it poses. As president, I’ll say no to drilling in the Arctic. I’ll stop the tax giveaways to big oil and gas companies. And I’ll make significant investments in clean energy. Our children's health and future depend on it. / · “This has to be a national priority not just for today or tomorrow. Clean water is not optional, my friends, it is not a luxury,” said Clinton.
· “And we will make America the clean energy superpower of the 21st century,” which will create millions of jobs and “enable America to lead the global fight against climate change,” she added.
· “I have doubts about whether we should continue drilling in the Arctic,” Clinton said.
Education / As president, I'll work to ensure every child—from every ZIP code—has access to a world-class education, including access to high-quality preschool. We need to strike the right balance on testing—with fewer, fairer and better tests for elementary and secondary school students. And we must support teachers with the training and resources they need. / · “And I have a plan to make college affordable. Debt free tuition if you go to a great public college or university like this one,” said Clinton, who clarified that free tuition would only be for those who truly need it.
· Clinton also said she wanted to create a sort of “education SWAT team” at the U.S. Department of Education where we have “qualified people, teachers, principals, maybe folks who are retired, maybe folks who are active but all of whom are willing to come and help.”
· “I have for many years now, about 30 years, supported the idea of charter schools, but not as a substitute for the public schools, but as a supplement for the public schools,” Clinton said.
National security / The president’s most important job is to keep us safe. That means maintaining a cutting-edge military and standing up to our rivals. I’ll also work with our allies to defeat ISIS, dismantle global terror networks, and harden defenses at home by launching an intelligence surge and keeping guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists. / · “We already know we need more resources for this fight. The professionals who keep us safe would be the first to say we need better intelligence to discover and disrupt terrorist plots before they can be carried out,” Clinton said.
· At the same time, Clinton says she will make “sure that our military is on the cutting edge” and that the U.S. “maintains the best-trained, best-equipped, and strongest military the world has ever known.”
· Clinton said we should “take a harder look at security protocols and airports and other so-called soft sites,” “more effectively track and analyze ISIS' social media posts” and create a “national commission on encryption.”
