On the day guide to running a Quicksticks game festival

Registration

·  Check each school has arrived and adjust any names that may have changed.

·  Hand out to participants, parents, spectators, coaches, teachers, young leaders and/ or adult helpers the Code of Ethics and Behaviour

·  Hand out club promotional information if available.

Team/player briefing

·  Gather all pupils together, welcome them to the festival.

·  Explain and discuss Young Persons Code of Ethics and Behaviour sheet

·  Health and Safety talk – explain Advisory Guidelines, as well as any specifics for the venue

·  Scoring: Win = 3 points, draw =1 point, loss = 0 points. Each team should receive 1 point for every goal scored.

·  Rules: Rules on individual challenges, specific rules will be on challenge stations. Run through rules of Quicksticks, using rules card.

·  Encourage all teams to be ready at the pitch 2 minutes before their game begins.

Starting the games

·  Match Officials meet with umpires to get ready for the game.

·  First named team starts game

Completing results sheet

·  Checking scorecards: Each teams match official (staff member, coach or qualified young leader) should be allocated to check scorecards for the correct scores. The score for each team should be given to the results official and entered into the result sheet.

Prize presentation & festival close

·  Gather all participants together:

o  Thank organisers, all volunteers for helping, all pupils for playing.

o  Announce all winners – present certificates.

o  Thanks again and encourage all to take up opportunities at local clubs.
