THE GEORGIA EMS AWARDS BANQUET IS SCHEDULED FOR

MAY 14, 2009 AT GEORGIA PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CENTER IN FORSYTH, GA. THE BANQUET WILL BEGIN AT 6:00 P.M. AND WILL END AT 10:00 P.M. THE FOLLOWING AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED:

CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC COURSE TO BE OFFERED IN REGION 1

WEST CENTRAL TECHNICAL COLLEGE AND AMBUCARE EMS WILL BE OFFERING A CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC PROGRAM BEGINNING ON JUNE 15, 2009 AND ENDING ON JULY 7, 2009. STATUS OF REGION 1 EMS TRAINING COORDINATOR

THE APPROVAL TO INTERVIEW FOR THE POSITION WAS GIVEN AND THREE APPLICANTS WERE INTERVIEWED. DAVID FOSTER, FORMER DTAE FIELD TRAINING OFFICER FOR NORTH GEORGIA AND REGION 4 EMS TRAINING COORDINATOR WAS SELECTED BY THE INTERVIEW TEAM AND HIS NAME WAS SUBMITTED TO DHR AS OUR SELECTION. WE HOPE HE WILL BE CHOSEN AND WILL BE ABLE TO COME TO WORK ON MAY 1.

ZONING PLAN APPROVED BY COUNCIL

THE EMS COUNCIL HAS RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF THE DADE AND WALKER ZONING PLAN AS WELL AS CHANGES TO THE CATOOSA ZONE BOUNDARIES. NO OTHER CHANGES WERE APPROVED AT THE MEETING ON APRIL 9, 2009.

THE PLAN WAS SUBMITTED TO DR. FORD OF DHR PUBLICHEALTH FOR FINAL APPROVAL.

NEW RULES AND REGULATIONS APPROVED

THE BOARD OF HUMAN RESOURCES APPROVED THE NEW DHR EMS RULES AND REGULATIONS. THESE NEW RULES AND REGULATIONS INCLUDE AIR AMBULANCE SERVICES. THE OFFICE OF EMS STAFF WILL BE BUSY FORMING NEW POLICIES TO CONFORM TO THE NEW RULES. A COPY OF THE NEW RULES WILL BE POSTED SOON ON THE OFFICE OF EMS WEBSITE AT

WALKER COUNTY EMS RECOGNIZED BY AHA FOR STEMI PROGRAM

Congratulations to Chief JIM Cutcher and Walker County Fire AND EMERGENCY SERVICES for being the second registered STEMI system in Georgia with the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Program.

TORNADO TRACKS ACROSS MAIN STREET IN SUMMERVILLE

several tornados caused damage in region 1 during the past several weeks but this ef2 tornado came across the main street of summerville damaging several residences and businesses as well as causing INTERRUPTION of power supply from downed trees. this TRAILER was destroyed but the residents were not present when the tornado hit.

ems office to cease scanning pcr forms

the region 1 OFFICE WILL cease scanning pcr forms at the end of 2009. the region has four scanners at services and will retain the scanner in the office for use by services continuing to scan forms. we encourage services to go paperless with vendor provided programs or go on-line with the dhr provided program as soon as possible. we will continue to monitor the gemsis website to insure that all services provide the data as REQUIRED by licensure as ambulance, first responder or neonate services.

EMS WEEK PLANNING BEGINS FOR REGION 1

SEVERAL SERVICES HAVE ALREADY ANNOUNCED PLANS FOR EMS WEEK. TRINITY BAPTIST CHURCH IN CALHOUN IS INVITING EMS PROFESSIONALS TO ATTEND A N APPRECIATION SERVICE ON SUNDAY MAY 17 BEGINNING AT 11 A.M. A MEAL WILL BE SERVED AFTER SERVICES. THE CHURCH IS LOCATED SOUTH OF CALHOUN ON HIGHWAY 53. RSVP BY MAY 14 BY CALLING 706-625-LOVE.

SWINE FLU CAUSES CONCERN FOR STATE OFFICIALS

A NEW STRAIN OF SWINE FLU FOR WHICH PEOPLE HAVE LITTLE OR NO IMMUNITY IS A CAUSE OF CONCERN FOR STATE PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS. WE HAVE BEEN E-MAILING GUIDELINES FOR EMS SERVICES ON THE CLEANING OF AMBULANCES AND LIMITING EXPOSURE. WE WILL CONTINUE TO USE THE E-MAIL SYSTEM TO KEEP YOU INFORMED ON THE LOOMING PUBLIC HEALTH THREAT

Ems-c conference announced

the annual georgia ems for children conference has been announced for june 3-4, 2009 at the georgia mountains center in gainesville, ga. a pre-conference workshop for p.e.a.r.s. (pediatric emergency assessment recognition) and stabilization is available for free with a limit of 20 students. the conference offers a variety of subjects with continuing education credits for the ems professional. for more information contact
