SQUAD DESCRIPTION

The ULM Hawkline consists of up to 14-20 dancers. This number may fluctuate from year to year given the needs of the team.

The ULM Hawkline performs jazz, hip-hop, pom and other styles of dance throughout the year for different functions. Hawkline performs on-campus at many events including but not limited to football games, basketball games, baseball games, the Miss ULM Pageant, Christmas at ULM, and pep-rallies, as well as special appearances throughout the community. Hawkline may also participate in UDA College Nationals in Orlando, FL in January of 2019 or American Collegiate Championship in Denton, TX in March of 2019 depending on the availability of funds.

Hawkline practices up to 3/4 times a week to learn and perfect choreography. Practices are held during the academic school year on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturday mornings of Game Days. The Hawkline works out as a team at 6:00am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the academic school year as well.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • DANCE EXPERIENCE IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!!!
  • Incoming freshman ARE eligible to tryout
  • Current and Transfer students with a minimum 2.35 GPA are eligible to tryout
  • Current ULM students must be enrolled full-time (12 hours) to be eligible to tryout
  • Tryout packet must be submitted before auditions along with a current picture
  • Although you may not be attending the University at the time of your audition, you must show proof of admission (student ID or admission letter).
  • A $30 Fee must be submitted with your tryout packet. Check or money order only. Make payment to The ULM Hawkline Foundation. Mail completed packets to the following address:

Video Auditions

We do not accept video auditions. You may set up a separate audition time with the coach only if the team is not at capacity by then.

TryoutSkills

In order to make the team you must be able to properly execute the following technical elements correctly: (These skills will be executed individually.)

  • Splits (right and left)
  • High Kicks (two 8 counts)
  • Double and Triple Pirouette (right and left)
  • Fouettes or second turns (at least 3 completed)
  • Leap (right and left)
  • Headspring or Kip Up

Audition timeline:

Round 1: (Friday, April 27th)

  • Individual Technical Skills listed above
  • Perform Jazz/Technique Dance

The First Cut will be made following.

Round 2: (Saturday, April 28th)

  • Perform Fight Song

The Second Cut will be made following.

  • Interview w/ Judges and Coach
  • Perform Hip-Hop routine

There MAY be callbacks if needed. New team will be announced directly following.

Attirefor Auditions

-All dancers must wear the following:

  • Any Colordance crop top

(Rhinestones, a touch of color or personal style is encouraged).

  • Dance tops can be found at discountdance.com, ktrna.com.
  • Black dance booty shorts
  • Tights are not required but can be worn if dancer wishes
  • Jazz shoes (black or nude)
  • Bring black sweatpants and tennis/hip-hop shoes for hip-hop routine
  • Dancers MUSTwear make-up with your hair styled, game day ready. Check Hawkline’s social media pages for references
