Being Admitted to BMCC
Welcome to BMCC!
To ease your transition into BMCC, we have put this guide together to assist you. This does not replace the college’s Catalog or Schedule of Classes.
WHICH BEST DESCRIBES YOU?q Freshman – Student’s first educational experience since completing high school or equivalency.
q Transfer Student– A student who has attended another institution of higher learning since graduating from high school
q Non-Degree – A student that wants to take course(s) with no intention of pursuing a college degree.
q 2nd Degree – A student that has acquired an associates degree at BMCC and now wants to pursue a second degree at BMCC.
q Readmit – A student that has attended BMCC in the past and now wishes to reenter.
q International – A student who requires a student visa (F-1) in order to study legally in the United States.
q Permit – A student from another CUNY college that has been given permission to take a course at BMCC.
q Reallocation – A student who has been accepted to another CUNY college that now wishes to attend BMCC.
q Special Programs – Such as the 24 Credit GED program, Continuing (adult) Education, College Now, Prelude to Success, and others.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:- Applications must be accompanied with all supporting educational documentation. Proof of high school graduation and if applicable, transcripts of each college attended.
- BMCC will not accept cash or personal checks – pay using money order. – Fee Waiver is not accepted
- BMCC will not accept copies of documents unless they are accompanied by the original document (students should have both available)
- All documents presented to BMCC should include the student’s social security or student ID number.
- Documents submitted for processing will not be returned or copied. Students should never submit one-of-a-kind original documents. Students should make additional copies of their tax returns, high school and college transcripts; other departments may request them.
- Official educational documents (high school and college transcripts) presented to BMCC must come in a sealed envelope or be mailed directly to BMCC Office of Admissions.
- All students must satisfy immunization requirements. Contact the Health Services Office (8255).
- All students must ensure that have been tested or are exempt from testing (CUNY Assessment Examination).
- International students should make an appointment to see an International Student Advisor through the Office of Admissions

Tuition and ResidencyGeneral breakdown on tuition costs per semester – does not include associated fees and the cost of books/supplies:
TUITION / Full-Time (12-18 credits) / Part-Time – (1-11 credits)New York City Resident * / $1,250 / $105 p/credit
Non-NYC Resident – International Students / $1,538 / $130 p/credit
Non-Degree – NYC Resident * / $120 Per Credit – Full or Part Time
Non-Degree – Non-NYC Resident / $175 Per Credit – Full or Part Time
· * NY State residents with a B-81 form (see Schedule of Classes – Bulletin). The B-81 form is available from the County Clerks Office in their hometown
Establishing NYC ResidencySome students will be required to prove residency in New York / NY City if they wish to obtain a lower tuition rate. The proof must span one year from the scheduled start of class. Student’s should be prepared to submit documentation.
A residency form must be completed and is available through the Office of Admissions.
Immigration StatusStudents not born in the United States, may have to present their immigration status. The ability to present documentation may impact the student’s tuition rate and enrollment. Students must be prepared to present their residency card, passport, naturalization papers, or other documentation attesting to their current status.
To Finance / Paying TuitionSpecific details on the various ways students can finance their education can be found in the BMCC Catalog, the Schedule of Classes, and on the web at: www.bmcc.cuny.edu
Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid – FAFSA - as soon as possible – A copy of the form is available from the Office of Financial Aid. For the quickest response, students should file on the Web at: www.fafsa.ed.gov
Please note that international and non-Degree students are not eligible to file the FAFSA.
Students should make every possible provision to settle their tuition bill or risk having their registration cancelled. The Schedule of Classes will contain the information students need to have in paying their bill.
Testing - CUNY Placement ExaminationStudents are required to take the CUNY Assessment test unless they have earned 45 or more college credits (non-remedial) from a non-CUNY college, or have satisfactory SAT/RCT scores (SAT Verbal & Math 480 or above – NYS Regents English &/or Math score 75 or above).
Sample tests and examination dates/times are available through the Testing Office located on the 7th floor – N700 – must be applicant to test.
Entering Under Special Programs
If you are looking to enter under a special program, or wish to be considered as a special student, please inquire through the Office of Admissions. Here are a few of the programs BMCC offers.
· College Now – HS Students taking college level courses
· 24 Credit GED – Prospective students that lack a high school diploma or GED
· College Discovery – First Time Freshman below 80 average out of high school.
Freshman ChecklistThe following should be used when filing your application over the counter at BMCC. Once you file with BMCC all supporting documentation must be sent to BMCC. If filing through UAPC then all supporting documentation should go through UAPC unless BMCC contacts you requesting information.

Students that have attended another college and have a cumulative GPA below a 2.0, will be required to sit out a semester if their GPA was attained the semester previous to the one they are intending to enroll into.

q - If you wish to change your status to a matriculated student (going for a degree), you must complete the semester you are enrolled into and have an end of semester cumulative 2.0 GPA. Visit the admissions office and file a change-to-matriculation-status application form prior to the end of the semester.
Permit StudentsCUNY Permits must present appropriate documentation from their college (receipt).
Students from Non-CUNY schools must present documentation from their college showing permission to take courses. Or the student must present their latest college transcript showing a cumulative GPA higher than 2.0 Permission to take courses from matriculating college over-rides 2.0 cum. GPA requirement.
International Checklistq - International students should follow appropriate guidelines presented under Freshman or Transfer. CUNY does not have a unique foreign student application. If you are an International Transfer student you must apply to UAPC directly. BMCC does not perform evaluations of post-secondary educational documents.
q - Have a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 450 or higher – Computerized version with a score of 133 or higher. Exempt if English is official language of country.
AFTER ACCEPTANCE OF EDUCATIONAL DOCUMENTS
q - Have presented to BMCC bank statements showing ability to finance my education and stay in the United States (approximately $18,000).
q - Have statement of financial support from my sponsor – If your sponsor is living in United States, we will need a detailed statement of the type of support that will be provided – room and board, personal expenses
q - Immunization Records – must show immunity from Mumps, Measles and Rubella – likely called something else in your home country
q - Had interview with International Student Advisor in the Admissions Office (before or after admittance to BMCC).
q - Took CUNY Assessment Test (see Testing)
