Math & Skills Day 2016

Ready-to-Hang, 2 Dimensional Art Contest

Time: Check-in 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Location: Eden Hall, Lobby Area

Limit: 20 participants (1st to sign up = 1st in contest, limit 4 from each school)

Description:

Ready-to-hang means what it says...pieces must be finished and mounted on some kind of durable support like mat board or presented in a hinged window mat. Pieces may be framed. All work must have a hanger on the back (wire, “alligator clip”; some kind of hanging device) for quick, 1-nail hanging. Any 2 dimensional artwork is eligible. The show will be installed in the Eden Hall lobby and stay up for 2-3 weeks until the awards ceremony.

Contest Rules:

q  Any 2 dimensional media is eligible.

q  One entry per participant.

q  All work must have a hanger on the back and be ready to hang on a single nail.

q  No “L” hooks or loose pieces of matboard, plexiglass, or glass requiring extraordinary installation will be allowed.

q  Artwork that falls apart or falls off the wall during the exhibition will be disqualified.

q  Artwork must have been created this academic year (summer 2015 is also allowed)

q  Art work must be labeled on reverse side with name,title & school

Judging:

The Southwestern Drawing Classes (Art 133 & 233) meeting that afternoon will judge the Ready-to-Hang, 2 dimensional artwork. Southwestern art faculty will oversee judging. Each piece will be judged on originality, aesthetic interpretation, and technique.

Prizes:

1st Prize is a certificate of recognition, and a 3-credit tuition waiver at Southwestern

2nd Prize is a certificate of recognition, and a 1-credit tuition waiver at Southwestern

3rd Prize is a certificate of recognition.
