WEST MIDLANDS REGIONAL ACCOMMODATION AND SUPPORT DIRECTORY FOR WOMEN

INTRODUCTION

Baroness Corston's report of a Review of Vulnerable Women was published in March 2007. One of the key recommendations called for a more co-ordinated approach to tackling women's needs in the community, advocating an holistic approach to mental health, accommodation, education, employment, childcare, finance and debt and other issues contributing to women's social exclusion and offending behaviour. In order to achieve this it is imperative that agencies work in partnership to divert women from custody, and increase compliance rates by providing integrated packages of support that meet the needs of women and ensure they have access to specialist services and are integrated into mainstream services.

The objective of this electronic directory is to provide accurate and up to date information to Housing Support Workers to enable them to provide an effective resettlement service to women offenders, wherever they are located whilst serving their prison or community sentence. The risk assessment done by the provider at the point of referral will determine whether the referral is accepted.

The regional accommodation pathway group will take responsibility for ensuring information, is regularly reviewed and updated (minimum annual review).
