Near the 700 metres, Jonolly Lass had to be steadied off the heels of Our Bundy Girl which displayed a tendency to lay in. Apprentice R Mangan was advised to exercise greater care in future when allowing her mounts to shift ground.

Our Bundy Girl and Admiral were both inclined to lay in in the home straight.

At approximately the 150 metres, Jonolly Lass shifted in under pressure.

Near the 100 metres, Our Bundy Girl laid in towards the heels of Concrete Johnny and had to be straightened by its rider.

***Stewards upgraded the track rating to DEAD (4) at 1.20 pm***

RACE 2 – HOSTPLUS DEBUTANTE 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – DIVISION 2 – SET WEIGHTS – 900 METRES

Fortuitous raced three wide without cover throughout.

RACE 3 – FOXTEL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1400 METRES

Correct weight was delayed when Trainer David Brunton and Apprentice Ismail Toker rider of the second placegetter Ritzy Bar asked to view the official film. After viewing the home straight front-on camera angle, Trainer David Brunton lodged a protest against Carnelian Crystal (Jason Maskiell) being declared the winner alleging interference near the 150 metres. After taking evidence from all parties Trainer David Brunton announced that he wished to withdraw the protest. Therefore Stewards ordered that the Judge’s placings should stand and correct weight was announced. Stewards reminded Trainer David Brunton of his obligations that he must take into account all available replays before electing to protest in future.

Lady Spencer and Weekend Winner bumped upon jumping.

Ritzy Bar got its head up whilst over-racing in the early stages.

At the 1100 metres Weekend Winner shifted out abruptly and bumped with Eastern Moon resulting in that gelding being severely hampered. After taking evidence from Apprentice Bulent Muhcu, Apprentice Georgie Catania and Trainer Brendan McShane, Stewards accepted the evidence of all parties and subsequently directed Weekend Winner to undergo a post-race veterinary inspection.

At the 150 metres, Carnelian Crystal (Jason Maskiell) shifted out under hard riding and as a result carried Ritzy Bar out wider on the track. Stewards reminded Jockey Jason Maskiell of his obligations when allowing his mounts to shift ground.

Incumblonde raced wide throughout.

RACE 4 – JAMES BOAGS MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1600 METRES

The start was delayed when Jettadan reared on several occasions striking its head. After undergoing a veterinary inspection Jettadan was declared a late scratching at 2.16 pm acting on veterinary advice. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Jettadan to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 2.16 pm were to be paid less twenty three cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and less eighteen cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket. Trainer John Keys was advised that Jettadan must complete a satisfactory trial before the mare will be permitted to race again.

Correct weight was delayed when Jockey David Fisher, the rider of the second placegetter (Newstart) and Trainer Gareth Horner wished to view the official patrol films. After doing so both parties were satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Miss It And A Bit laid in under pressure in the home straight.

When questioned on the apparent improved performance of Chips today, Trainer Gary White explained that at its last start, Chips raced in a handy position being in the first 4 or 5 so he took advantage of today’s barrier draw as he thought the other horses would leave the gelding alone if able to lead.

RACE 5 – ELISE ARCHER MHA CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Vinder and Coastal Rose bumped upon jumping.

Rounding the home turn, Alainn had to be steadied off the heels of Testa Gee Gee when that gelding laid in.

Near the 50 metres Player One which was laying in, brushed with Am I There Yet.

Trainer G White reported that Fairy Feet had bled from the off side nostril on return to the stables.

Correct weight was delayed when Jockey Jason Maskiell the rider of the third placegetter Hired Gun asked to view the official film. After doing so Jockey Jason Maskiell lodged a protest against Huon Knight being declared the second placegetter alleging interference from approximately the 200 metres. After taking evidence from all the parties Stewards dismissed the protest as they were of the opinion that the interference suffered was less than the margin at the end of the race and Stewards ordered that the Judge’s placings stand.

At a subsequent inquiry, Stewards issued Jockey Brendon McCoull (Huon Knight) with a severe reprimand under AR 137(a) careless riding in that at approximately the 200 metres he allowed his mount to shift ground outwards when insufficiently clear of Hired Gun (Jason Maskiell) resulting in that gelding having to be checked by its rider. The interference was deemed to be of a low level and the carelessness was deemed to be of a medium level. In arriving at penalty, Stewards took into account Jockey McCoull’s good record in this regard.
