Homework
A variety of homework is given throughout the week.
Monday and Tuesday - written spelling homework but please practise spelling words every night in preparation for a Check-Up on Friday.
Wednesday – Numeracy and BIG Talk.
Thursday – Practise Spelling words.
Children will also have additional homework tasks throughout the year eg Health, IDS, poetry. They will be given a period of time to complete these tasks.
How Parents/Carers can help
Help your child to complete the spelling activities.
Ask your child basic maths facts to keep them on their toes.
Listen to your child reading from their reading book regularly and
also from other texts.
Check your child’s bag for letters, homework, etc. Return correspondence promptly.

Dear Parents and Carers,

The purpose of our leaflet is to inform you about the learning and teaching taking place in your children’s classes and to give you ideas on how you can support your child’s learning at home. In this leaflet we will share information about the 3 core curricular areas of our Curriculum for Excellence (as well as other curricular areas), will let you know about any activities or events which are unusual and give you reminders about class routines and requirements.

Curriculum for Excellence has been introduced to raise standards of learning and teaching and help improve our children's life chances.Building on the best, it focuses on the importance of knowledge and skills and is about bringing life to learning and learning to life. Working in partnership with parents we endeavour to teach our pupils to be Responsible Citizens, Effective Contributors, Successful Learners and Confident Individuals. The following guide will inform you of pupils’ expected pace of learning through the CfE levels.

EARLY:the pre-school years and P1 or later for some

FIRST:to the end of P4, but earlier or later for some

SECOND:to the end of P7, but earlier or later for some

THIRD AND FOURTH:S1 to S3 but earlier for some

SENIOR PHASE:S4-S6 and college or other means of study

Language, Literacy and Modern Languages
Writing: We will be working on sentence construction, the correct use of punctuation and using connectives to lengthen sentences.
Spelling: Some children will continue to learn the Jolly Grammar spelling patterns and others will be using the Complete Spelling Programme.
Reading: Storyworlds, class and school library and topic research.
We will be working on developing reading strategies.
Handwriting: We will continue to develop joined script.
Mathematics and numeracy
Numeracy:Squares group will subtract tens and units using exchanging and start the times tables. They will continue to explore numbers to 100.
Circles group will complete number stories to 20, explore place value and begin addition of tens and units using carrying figures. They will explore numbers to 100.
Triangles will continue working on addition and subtraction. They will also begin number stories 11-13.
Maths: We will be exploring 2D and 3D shape. Including learning to identify shapes by name and properties - sides, corners, angles, edges, faces, vertices. We will be looking at how some shapes tile.We will make patterns using 2D shapes and use 3D shapes together to create models.
Health and Wellbeing
PE:Gymnastics- using small apparatus. Exploring different ways we can travel, balance, roll and jump. Thinking about height, speed and direction in our movement. Use a range of moves to create sequences.Social dancing.
Health and Wellbeing:
This term we are learning about basic First Aid, safe use and storage of medicines.
Learning to respect each other, think about how we work together and appreciate our own and other people’s strengths and weakness.
Interdisciplinary Study (incorporates learning across many areas of the curriculum within one learning context or topic)
Enterprise: ‘Santa Dust’
The children will have experience of running a business and investigate the different roles required to run a successful business.
They will be involved in -

  • Choosing a company name

  • Market Research
  • Pricing and costing
  • Applying for a loan
  • Buying, selling and keeping accounts.
  • Producing goods for sale

Tuesday: PE, Library
Wednesday:
Thursday: Big Writing
Friday: Assembly, Spelling Check-up
Gym shoes and shorts are needed on gym days.
If possible the children should leave their gym kit in school in a drawstring or carrier bag.Please make sure that on these days your child is wearing no jewellery and long hair is tied back.
Children may bring in a painting apron/shirt to use for art activities.
