Supervisor of Pupil Personnel & Special Education - 1 Year Position

Information:The Middletown Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified instructional leader for the position of Supervisor of Pupil Personnel & Special Education (this is a one year position to cover for a leave of absence).

Job Description:

Supervisors would maintain compliance with Board policy, federal/state regulations, the

coordination, supervision and evaluation of all pupil personnel staff and other ancillary teaching staff, in the

department to provide research-based instructional practices that support student learning for academic

achievement and social responsibility (Pre K-12). The Director and Supervisors shall perform these duties and

all additional duties as delegated by the Director of Pupil Services & Special Education, Associate Superintendent, and the

Superintendent of Schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities are as follows:

1. Implement state/federal statutes and regulations pertaining to IDEA (Individuals With Disabilities

Education Improvement Act) for special education and related services, FERPA (Federal Education

Rights & Privacy Act) and NCLB (No Child Left Behind). Provide professional development and

consultation to all staff that relate to the department’s responsibilities under these

statutes/regulations.

2. Coordinate and implement IDEIA requirements for non-public schools with district staff.

3. Implementation of and consultation with all staff to achieve the district and department

goals/objectives.

4. Coordinate, supervise and evaluate pupil personnel staff and services in conjunction with building

principals and/or community agencies for effective delivery to students.

5. Plan for provisions of consistent and embedded professional development for staff to support

students with all disabilities in LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) to learn with their peers; to

increase TWNDP (Time With Non Disabled Peers) for students and to improve student learning for

all disabled students as measured by AYP (NCLB) and the district and state measurements.

6. Attend meetings (state, local, consortium, organizations, associations, etc.) conferences

(state/national) to provide the school system and staff with up-to-date information that supports

student achievement.

7. Participate in the on-going review of diagnostic procedures/process, regulatory requirements and

evaluation of specialized instructional services for effective outcomes that improve student learning.

8. Work collaboratively to develop and maintain the department budget and with the hiring of pupil

personnel staff and paraprofessionals.

9. Assist with coordination of health services.

10. Work collaboratively to improve all programs and services in the school community and other duties

as assigned.

11. Problem-solve issues at the building level and at out-of-district facilities to arrive at decisions from a

balanced viewpoint considering the legislative requirements, board policy and what is in the best

interest of students.

12. Attend planning and placement team or 504 meetings for students who are placed out of district or attend

non-public settings.

13. Facilitate due process as required.

14. Provide instructional leadership in the many and varied models for insuring quality instruction in the

least restrictive environment.

Additional Responsibilities
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent, Associate Superintendent, and Director of Pupil Services & Special Education.

Qualifications:

•Intermediate Administration Certification (092) required.

Additional Information:

  • Salary per the M.S.A.A. Contract, Category III, $120,762 - $127,037
  • 214 day work year.
