1.Welcome and Introduction

2. Approval of Minutes from March Meeting

3. Student Council Update

The student council is having a food drive for the food pantry. There is a chart in the cafeteria showing the amount of items collected by each class. The student council will be collecting food until April 18. The class that collects the most food gets a pizza party. The 6-8 middle school dance hosted at the Edgartown School was a success. All schools on the island participated. There were approximately 75-90 kids, mostly 6th and 7th graders. Many thanks to the organizers and the chaperones for supporting this event.

4. 2014-2015 SIP

John shared how teachers offered their input re: professional development for next year. Teachers rated their interest in professional development based on a series of topics. The topics were selected from PD of the past, suggestions, a curriculum survey, as well as target areas of the SIP. The areas that were most popular were Common Core, Technology, and Social Curriculum, followed by Differentiated Instruction and Math.

Question – how can the SIP be discussed and explored more closely by faculty, staff, parents, and community members? One suggestion – devote a faculty meeting to the plan. Another idea is to have the SIP discussed at tomorrow's Education Committee meeting and then sent back to the clusters for feedback.

The SAC looked through the target areas and questions were asked:

RTI

What is the system of documentation of interventions? These would be the activities and strategies used to help students in reading. These currently exist in google docs. Perhaps grade level teams can review these strategies and discuss and tweak interventions that are successful.

Differentiated Instruction

Funding has been frozen for workshops/conferences/supplies. It is suggested that teachers put in for conferences and workshops as early as possible. Teachers are encouraged to attend workshops/conferences dependent upon available funding.

5. Next Meeting agenda items

  • SIP draft will be shared at the April Education Committee meeting for input and then shared with grade level teams for input. The SIP will be finalized at the next SAC meeting.

6. Adjournment
