Ohio Valley United Charities Sponsor Blue Apple Players’ Elementary School Play about Child Abuse
“No More Secrets”
Thursday, April 23rd
In recognition that April is National Child Abuse Prevention month, the Ohio Valley United Charities, Inc., is sponsoring 2 performances at our school.
“National Child Abuse Prevention month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children” explained Leigh Ann Roberts, Victims Advocate for the 15th Judicial Circuit. “In order to prevent future abuse of our children, we all must be educated to know the warning signs of suspected child abuse or neglect. Children must also feel safe to report problems they are experiencing.
The “Blue Apple Players” is a non-profit theatrical group that brings educational musical programs to youth throughout the state. “No More Secrets” utilizes powerful songs to provide a unique program to prevent and intervene in child sexual abuse matters. The exploited Children’s Help Organization assisted Blue Apple with ensuring that the most appropriate and most effective prevention and intervention messages were communicated through this educational drama. The musical play gives sexually abused children the information and encouragement to report abuse to a trusted adult or friend. A “Parent’s Guide” will be sent home with each student so parents can talk to their children about what they saw and how they felt about the program.
“The Ohio Valley United Charities is very pleased that we had the funds through donations from individuals, businesses and industries to make these performances possible,” explained Ruth H. Baxter, Treasurer. “In this era of “tight budgets” many local school districts have been forced to eliminate educational performances. Since this important topic deserves our respective community’s attention, we were glad to step up to provide the money to make these performances a reality.”
Special note: If you do not want your child to attend this assembly, please contact our center. (859)567-4900.
