1)  Minutes accepted

Matters arising: Action re flood defence schemes –a summary of the wider implications of recent weather events was circulated. It was agreed that a strong relationship Network Rail was very important; also the role of MPs in lobbying about strategic decision making in relation to SW infrastructure. Lucy outlined how they are working with them at the moment. If it becomes apparent that there is a role for the Board to help develop stronger ties with some partners, it will be brought to a future meeting.

2)  Proposal for a workshop/ conference re localism. The Board discussed the proposals submitted by Richard Sheard for the Devon Strategic Partnership workshop on 24th May to combine it with a longer workshop on aspects of localism. The proposals were welcomed, and the longer day format supported. It was felt the content needed some amendment to ensure it was topical, and included some focus on Health and Wellbeing and resilient stronger communities, including items from the Police and Crime Commissioner, Rebecca re the role of the CCG and something about the Health and Wellbeing Board. ACTION: Caroline to liaise with Richard.

3)  Verbal Updates

a)  Devon Strategic Partnership Welfare Advisory Group. Karen updated the board about the progress of this group and its aims. Following discussion it was agreed that details of resource being sought would be circulated to public sector partners. ACTION: Karen/ Caroline

It was suggested the group also consider the impact of land use, and also the assistance that public authorities could give to ‘grow’ small businesses into larger ones, thus helping the economy.
