Background

There are over 500,000 people in the UK today who have had meningitis and every year more than 8,000 babies, children and adults contract either bacterial or viral meningitis. 1 in 10 who contract bacterial meningitis sadly die, and a further 1 in 3 are left with lifelong after-effects.

Job Purpose

To lead a small team that willdeliver the annual Trust and Grant’sfinancial target and develop a strategy to increase income from this area over time.

As a key member of the Fundraising team, the Trust and Grants Manager will develop relationships with charitable trusts, national lottery and statutory grant givers. This will include the engagement and recruitment of new supporters and the development of long term relationships through excellent stewardship.

The post holder will be expected to draw on their experience of developing relationships with a wide range of people from professional grant makers to individuals within family foundations, to ensure that Meningitis Now is the beneficiaryof choice.

Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising

1.Deliver the annual Trust and Grants fundraising plan and financial target.

2.Develop a Trust and Grants strategy with the aim of growing income and the number of active supporters over time.

3.Devise analytical tools to inform the strategy.Manage the prospect pipeline to ensure resource is directed to areas that will achieve the greatest ROI.

4.Create compelling applications that secure support for the charity’s core activities and areas of greatest need.

5.Project-manage large applications to sources such as BIG Lottery that will require cross departmental working.

6.Undertake research to inform approaches and relationship management.

7.Ensure that all external reporting requirements are fulfilled on time and to a high standard. Work with colleagues across the charity to develop impact reporting techniques that meet our donor’s needs and that become embedded over time.

8.Make sure that all supporters are provided with highest level of care in every communication and at all contact points.

9.Keep up to date with developments in Trust and Grant fundraising policy.

10.Champion the Institute of Fundraising /FRSB codes of practice.

Management

  1. Line-manage the Trust and Grants Fundraiser. Ensure that their objectives are met, motivation is maintained and that their skills are developed.
  2. Contribute to the development of Meningitis Now’s fundraising strategy identifying investment opportunities and risks.
  3. Provide regular income and expenditure reports against agreed targets to the Senior Leadership Team.

Relationships

Internally:

The post holder will work with the:

  • Fundraising team to ensure thatall opportunities to grow support are maximised i.e. referrals from the Development Board or Corporate Partnerships team.
  • CEO and Director of Fundraising, particularly on approaches to high value Trusts and Grant makers when their direct involvement will assist cultivation and stewardship.
  • The Research and Support team to create compelling propositions that solicit support for the charity’s core activities and where the need is greatest. Also when reporting on the difference a donation has made.
  • Communications team to produce high quality applications and reports.
  • Supporter Care team to ensure all donors receive exemplary stewardship.
  • Finance team in relation to budget management and the creation of project budgets.
  • Trustee Board and Development Board where their expertise and contacts can support Trust and Grant fundraising.

Externally:

The post holder will oversee the development of all relationships with Trust and Grant funders. This will range from professional grant givers such as the BIG Lottery and large national Trusts to smaller local and family run Trusts. Each relationship will require an individual approach with the aim of securing support for the long term.

Personal Specification

Essential experience

  • At least three years experience working with Trust and Foundations.
  • Managing applications to National Lottery distributors, preferable BIG Lottery.
  • Relationship fundraising including making the ask.
  • Working in partnership with other organisations on funding applications.
  • Evaluation and writing progress reports including impact reporting.
  • Using databases to plan, deliver, record and analyse Trust and Grants fundraising.
  • Prospect research to inform cultivation strategies.
  • Project Management involving several stakeholders.
  • Formulation of budgets including full cost recovery.

Essential knowledge

  • Principles of Trust and Grants fundraising.
  • Data Protection in charities.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, and using databases preferably Salesforce or Raisers Edge.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Fundraising qualification.
  • Member of the Institute of Fundraising.
  • Experience of working with Salesforce or Raisers Edge.

Other requirements

  • Commitment to the goals and values of Meningitis Now.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.
  • Some out of hours working, travel and attendance at appropriate events when required.
