1st Team v Rothwell Match Report

This friendly arranged early last year went ahead in glorious conditions. Two teams that have not played each other for other a decade promised to be a little more entertaining but u fortunately with the bad winter has meant that there is still a lot of moisture in the square. With valiant efforts by the ground man to get the pitch hardened it was a pudding of a track that meant playing any shots was a risk.

Rothwell batted first and managed 109 all out and did not manage to bat there allocated 36 over’s. All bowlers bowled well enough much there is much improvement to be made ahead of opening game away to Selby next week. Whitkirk were missing 5 1st team players but the young side showed good fielding skills which was very encouraging for this trial game. Highlight of innings had to be Pickard removing Danby Snr first ball.

Whitkirk’s reply also started slow as the pitch did not dry out as much as hoped. Richard Sinbad Simpson & new player Simon Wood finding it hard the get any power in to the shots. Sinbad was caught plum in front early on which brought Dave Tubs Tubby to crease and he and Simon went steadily through the next 10overs. Dave seemed to play some aggressive shots which flew to the boundary. Simon Wood played a controlled innings that showed he would be tough to remove for any side.

Whitkirk managed to knock the runs off and finished on 113-7

Thanks must go to Graham Flynn for umpiring and Jacqui & Janine Grainger for making sure players had some teas. Thank you to you all. Much appreciated.

Cracking party after too.
