STUDY / What needs to be improved and what specific outcome needs to occur? Consistent curriculum guides deployed throughout the district with focus on essential curriculum and differentiation
What is the current condition and data that supports the need for improvement? Initially called pacing guides, name changed with focus on differentiation and essential curriculum. They are guides to determine curriculum and alternatives in resources and delivery systems. District policy requires instructional guides be designed by the district and distributed to schools. Best practice (DuFour, Eaker, English ,Wiggins) indicate curriculum guides should include essential curriculum with delivery methodology to be determined at the school level (DuFour in PLCs) where the need is determined for a particular group of students. In ISS guides had been developed on a 5 year cycle with dates determined by DPI revision processes. Guides were distributed but there was no assurance of deployment. Zoomerang survey with 85% of staff responding indicated that current guides were not used….on SCOS.
Who are the direct customers of the improvement and how will this benefit them?

  • When and how will the improvement be evaluated for results? Input received twice a year through zoomerang, twice a year through plus/deltas, revisions immediately in emergency, on-going at the school level and annually at the district level curriculum week
