RAVENSHEAD PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

GRAND OPENING

The MUGA and the 3G Football Facilty at the Leisure Centre are now operational, but have still to be opened formally. This is now planned to happen on Saturday morning the 11th. September. Two dignitaries will be present at the Grand Opening Ceremony, the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council Cllr. Tom Pettengell and the Deputy Mayor of Gedling Borough Council, our own Cllr. Patricia Andrews. Our Member of Parliament has also been invited, as have those other people who have contributed in all sorts of ways to achieving the provision of these important local facilities. In particular, this has included MUGA funding from the County Council LIS Scheme and Developer S106 funding raised with the support of Gedling Borough Council. The whole arose from two rounds of public consultation conducted in Ravenshead Village. We look forward to local support for this Grand Opening.

A60 CAR BOOT SALE

The Thursday Car Boot Sale has been causing significant parking and road congestion problems on the A60. Following action taken by our Ravenshead District Councillors, this activity has been curtailed, at least for the time being. The venue has moved to a site at the A614 end of Longdale Lane which is already used for Car Boot Sales. Limits are imposed on these sites and Gedling Council will be monitoring the level of use resulting from this change of venue

SUMMER PLAY SCHEME

The good news is that the Ravenshead Summer Play Scheme has again been delivered successfully at the Ravenshead Leisure Centre. At times, the noise level in the Centre was intense, particularly on rainy days, but this represented the high level of participation enjoyed by the children. Our thanks go to those involved in delivering this important annual provision for our young people.

OVERGROWN HEDGES

We have had one or two complaints about our piece in the last Ravenshead Newsletter about overgrown hedges and the associated photographic evidence supplied by the “Newsletter”. These hedges do cause problems for some people, particularly those using wheelchairs and mothers negotiating prams along our pavements. And, the difficulty is exacerbated, as illustrated last time, where vehicles are part-parked on pavements. We make no apology for repeating our request for house owners to control their front hedges.

CHAPEL LANE

For upwards of fifteen years, many individuals and a number of groups of individuals, including the Ravenshead Road Safety Group, have campaigned for a reduction in the speed limit on Chapel Lane Ravenshead, to equate to the 30mph limit operating on Kighill Lane. Over the years, we have invited many worthy people to come and inspect the situation, including our MP, Gedling CEO, Environmental Chief Officers, Chairmen and Cabinet Members, all resulting in the same negative answer. NOW, like a Bolt-out-of-the-Blue, we are invited to participate in a County Council consultation to measure support for a speed reduction from 40 to 30 mph. We are asked to respond to before the 10th.September – and we trust it will be a foregone conclusion!
