Background
Almost four years ago West Valley College secured a temporary sub-lease at the Campbell EDD sit on Bascom Avenue to schedule classes administer various programs in the Campbell/San Jose area. Since then more than 60 credit classes and hundreds of contract education classes have been held there. The center houses the college’s Contract Education, Title IV-E, and Foster/Kinship programs which provide staffing and logistical support for the center’s classes and other activities. Having this satellite location has strong support in the Campbell and San Jose areas, from which the largest numbers of students and largest numbers of the district’s voters reside. Programs housed at the center have generated millions of dollars of apportionment, grants, and contract education funding. The current EDD shared space lease costs $72,000 per year.
New Site
The new site is located in the Campbell Community Center at the corner of Winchester and Campbell Avenues in Campbell. We are planning to lease three classrooms totaling 2,253 square feet and an office of 567 sq. ft. One of the classrooms will be equipped to serve Health Tech programs while the other two will be for general classroom use. The small additional lease costs will be covered by grant and contract education funding sources, supplemented by the $34,000 annual allocation of fixed cost funds. The new site will be dedicated college space and not have to be shared.
