CLASS TITLE:SENIOR LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE - F/C

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work providing practical nursing services to patients under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, licensed osteopathic physician, licensed podiatrist, or a licensed dentist, and includes coordinating a staff of sub-professional and/or paraprofessional workers, or inmate orderlies. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or institution.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Provides coordination over subordinate direct care staff which may include unit treatment and rehabilitation specialists and human services workers.
  • Provides nursing care and administers treatment as directed by a professional nurse to subacute, chronic, and convalescent patients.
  • Assists a professional nurse and/or physician in clinics with diagnostic tests and physical examinations by preparing clinic rooms for use, collecting routine specimens, taking and recording temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Administers simple medications to bedridden patients in the home under specific orders, gives selective personal care such as baths and shampoos, changes sterile dressings, and gives irrigations and enemas.
  • Performs simple rehabilitative nursing procedures for selected chronically ill and aged patients.
  • Assists a professional nurse with screening procedures and school health activities.
  • Assists physicians with school physical examinations.
  • Assists professional nurses in completing and maintaining records of patient progress.
  • Prepares and administers hypodermic injections as ordered by attending physician.
  • Makes routine checks to insure patients' security precautions are being enforced.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27 and one year of experience in providing practical nursing services.
