*** One of the Perspective courses must be from a discipline in the Arts & Humanities, i.e., it must be an ARTH, COMM, DANC, DFST, EMF, ENGL, HIST, MUSC, PHIL,RLST, THEA or a foreign language course (GERM, SPAN, etc.) andit must be in a different discipline from the course taken for the Core 5 requirement.

One of the Perspective courses must also be from a discipline in the Social & Behavioral Sciences, i.e., it must be an AFST, AMST, ANTH, CLST, CRMJ, ECON, EDUC, FMST, GEOG, GERO, HLTH , KNES,MTRO, OCTH, POSC, PSYC, SOCI or WMST course andit must be in a different discipline from the course taken for the Core 6 requirement.

Caution: One cannot count more than two courses in the same discipline towards both the major and University Core requirements.

Special notes for Honors College students:

Because honors seminars are interdisciplinary in nature, the HONR courses in Core Categories 10-14 (HONR 229, HONR 230, HONR 243, HONR 240, and HONR 345) can count either as “Arts and Humanities” courses or as “Social and Behavioral science” courses.

Furthermore, Honors College students may still fulfill Core 5 with HONR 235 even if they fulfilled the Perspectives Arts and Humanities requirement with an HONR course. Honors College students may still fulfill Core 6 with HONR 237 even if they fulfilled the Perspectives Social and Behavioral Science requirement with an HONR course.
