NC State Athletics Marketing Student Internship Program – Fall 2016

Thisunpaid volunteer position (Fall 2016 (August-December)) will provide an educational experience related to all facets of collegiate athletics marketing. The intern will assist in marketing and promoting NC State University’sNCAADivision I 23-sport athletics program to the campus and surrounding communities. The position will serve as the secondary marketing contact forassigned sport(s) and be expected to contribute to the overall marketing success of that sport. The candidate will gain experience in creating marketing, ticketing, advertising, social media and promotional plans. In addition, he/she will also shadow various members of the marketing and communications staff and collaborate with the graphic designers on the creationof marketing materials;implementing social media strategies and campaigns on NC State Athletics social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social applications, and participating in gameday activities.This internship requires regularly scheduled hours(approx. 40 hours per week), with time split between office and gameday activities, scheduled around internship program and academic requirements. This is an opportunity to gain exposure to all facets of collegiate athletics marketing.
Interns will gain experience in:
- Gameday activities:
- Pre-game preparation (setting up the marketing/promotions table)
- Distribution of t-shirts and other giveaways to fans in a variety of ways
- Selection of contestants for, and execution of in-game promotions and contests with an understanding of NCAA rules.

- Representation of NC State Athletics in a positive manner & deliver excellent customer service
- Ensure fans have a positive and memorable game day experience
- Other experience provided by members of the marketing staff
- Administrative activities:
- Researching promotional ideas for various sports
- Collaboratingwith coaches and other staff (including other interns) to develop and implement gameday promotions & cultivating new fans
- Contactingcampus groups, vendors, community organizations, recreation leagues and club/high school teams, etc. to organize promotional events throughout the year
- Developing promotional events/activities to be implemented at NC State sporting events
- Other responsibilities:
- Maintaining and managing storage areas
- Assisting the Marketing Assistants to promote an assigned sport
- Assist in managing a small budget for his/her assigned spring sport
Student Eligibility Criteria:
- All intern applicants should:
- Be a current NC State Student (exceptions may be made)
- Possess a passion for athletics
- Desire a career in athletics marketing
- Have a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player and goal-oriented
- Be available and willing to assist odd hours- including evenings, weekends and holidays, if necessary
- Applicants seeking academic, course credit are preferred but NOT required
