A Tribute to the Novella
50 points
Due : March 4th
Choose a novella from the list on the flipside of this paper and prepare a handout(s) for the class which you will orally present and which I will collect on a document for your classmates to use as a study guide for the exam. Keep in mind what you would want for your own notes. You will be graded on your thorough approach to each of the following requirements. Primary and outside sources must be included on an MLA Works Cited.
1) Identify at least one Foster chapter which suits this work and explain why in note form. Foster note outline is on the website. (5 pts.)
2) Make connections in note form between the protagonist in your work and another character from a work of literary merit. Be thorough analyzing MULTIPLE similarities and specific using textual support for your connections. (5 pts.)
3) Identify and outline at least 2 potential AP–style prompts which would be suitable and ID a quotable quotes (who said them and in what context as well) which could be used to support each. These could be prompts from past AP test and/or prompts that you make up which are worded in an AP open-response fashion. (5 each for 10 pts.)
4) Identify and outline at least 5 vocabulary words from the first semester which would be relevant to the characters and settings of your novella and outline why the words fit with at least 2 examples. (2 pts each for 10 pts.)
5) Choose a significant passage, photocopy or type out, and create 2 AP multiple choice questions and answer choices and answers with annotated answer explanations which are of AP quality. Use sample questions and the handouts I have given you as a guide. Questions which do not follow the AP style or complexity will not earn credit. (5 pts each for 10 pts.)
6) Identify 1 social criticism from your Social Criticism sheet (on the website in the AP Resource Guide) which applies to your novella and outline at least 5 ways in which your author achieves his/her criticism. ( 10 pts.)
7) Works Cited (0 on the assignment without it)
List of Novella Choices: These are novellas- they are no longer than 40, 000 words. Please read these books. Do not read summaries of a novella (uhg), and by no means substitute films because believe you me, the films do not follow the novellas. Please do not, in this case, read a book you have read in the past. I would like this assignment to come from your fresh perspective as it is a synthesis assignment.
