Amusement Park Project
Now that we have discussed and researched amusement parks all over the country, you are going to create your own. With a partner you will design and market a new amusement park for your generation. You are not to use an existing park – you must create a NEW and original park. Your ideas must be centered around one basic theme. It can be any theme you want, as long as it is appropriate.
This project is broken down into four parts: basic information, park map, park brochure, and a sale pitch to the class.
YOUR AMUSEMENT PARK MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
I. A main midway (a center point of the park)
II. You must have at least five different areas in your park.
· For example, Disney’s Magic Kingdom features the following eight areas:
· Adventureland
· Tomorrowland
· Frontierland
· Fantasyland
· New Orleans Square
· Main Street USA
· Mickey’s Toontown Fair
· Critter Country
III. You must have at least five attractions in each area, two of them being thrill rides (roller coasters). Examples are:
· Splash Mountain
· Space Mountain
· Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
· Indiana Jones Adventure
(Remember this can include a 3D movie ride, rollercoaster, kids rides, water rides, etc.)
IV. You must feature at least two different shows in the park.
· Example: Disney features “Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks” and “Spectrovision Electrical Parade” everyday.
V. You must have two shops located in each area. Consider the area and theme of the park when naming the shops.
VI. You must have at least five different large restaurants total in the entire park – spread them out. (maybe one themed restaurant in each area)
VII. You must have additional food options such as street vendors and drink stops (At least two in each area)
VIII. Your must include and have an key to identify the following on your map:
· Telephones
· Restrooms
· Information Center
· Shopping
· ATM Machines
· Locker Rentals
· Lost and Found
Using this information, you must now complete the four parts of the project
In a couple of sentences, answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper. Make sure to answer the question completely.
- What type of park will you have?
- What will your overall theme be?
- What will you name your park?
- What will your logo and trade character be? (include an illustration of each in your brochure)
- Define your target market. (Be specific!!)
- Where is your park located? (city and state)
- What is your parks main sponsor? (Disney, Coca Cola, MTV, etc.)
- List the name of the areas in your park and describe the attractions you have created in each.
- What other types of entertainment will you have?
- What are the names of the shops will you have and what will they sell?
- What kinds of food and beverages will be served and where?
- What will be your days and hours of operation?
- Will there be any special characters in the park? (Like Disney characters that roam the park for signatures)
Now using all of your information, you will create a guide map. Make sure to incorporate your theme and use color. Include symbols from your key to illustrate where guests can find bathrooms, telephones, etc.
The more creative the better!!! All of your customers will use this map to get around the park so it needs to be clear and include all important information.
It is now time to get the word out about your park. Create a brochure with construction paper. This should give potential guests an idea of what to expect at your park. You should provide a brief explanation of all attractions and restaurants, any special events you may host, and pricing for tickets. Remember to include group pricing, age break downs (Will small children and the elderly get a discount on ticket prices?) and advertisements for your sponsors. Make sure to also include all important information such as hours of operation. Make it look exciting!!
It is time to sell you idea! You and your partner will give a brief sales presentation to the class to get them to invest in your park. Remember to make it professional, your goal is to be the winning amusement park. Your class mates will rate your presentation and determine the winning team.
