Tom Nevakshonoff – MLA for Interlake

Nevakshonoffwas raised in the Interlake communities of Poplarfield and Fisher Branch. In 1999, he was elected to the Manitoba legislative assembly as the member for the Interlake and was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

He follows in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Henry Mabb, who was elected as the first MLA for Fisher in 1920, and his great-great-great grandfather, Fredrick Bird, who was a member of the first legislative assembly of Manitoba.

Nevakshonoffchairs the Legislative Review Committee of the NDP caucus, the Standing Committee on Agriculture of the legislative assembly, and has also been the legislative assistant to the minister of agriculture, food and rural initiatives. In 2009, he was appointed legislative assistant to the minister of conservation as well as to the minister of infrastructure and transportation, positions he maintained after the 2011 election. He was also appointed deputy speaker in 2011.

Nevakshonoff graduated from Carleton University in 1987 with a BA with honours in Eastern European studies.

He is married to Rozanne Imlah and has two children, Jade and Caitlin.

Mohinder Saran – MLA for the Maples

Saran was first elected to represent the Maples in 2007. Prior to that, he was a well-known community activist in his riding, dividing much of his volunteer time between the Sikh Society of Manitoba andthe India Association. Saran also served as the Maples NDP president for three years.

He has also served inthe Manitoba legislature as legislative assistant responsible for the premier’s office, deputy chair of the Committees of the Whole House and as the caucus whip.
