Our Mission:

Abraham Lincoln High School-Academy for College Preparation is a school on the move. All students graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School will be prepared both academically and socially to become positive and productive citizens. The focus of Abraham Lincoln High School will be to engage students and involve parents to create a post secondary readiness culture.

All ALHS graduates will demonstrate characteristics within the following areas:

·  Key Cognitive Strategies – Students will demonstrate skills involving problem solving, research, interpretation, and reasoning. All with precision and accuracy.

·  Key Content Knowledge – Students will demonstrate key foundational content and “big ideas” from all core subjects.

·  Academic Behaviors – Students will learn to time manage, possess study skills, set goals, have self-awareness and persistence.

·  Contextual Skills and Awareness – Students will be aware of all essential process in order to navigate within college systems. (Admission requirements, affording college, college types and missions, college culture, exposure to college professors)

Course Emphasis: Students will acquire Mandarin Chinese language and Chinese culture by participating in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. Participation is the key and a major factor of the grade.

Course Expectations: ALL ALHS students are expected to conform to all policies and standards found within the ALHS student handbook.

Homework / Students will be assigned homework on the weekly basis. It includes Chinese character writing, reading stories to parents and having parents sign on the paper, or playing World Language Games online. All homework, class handouts, and study guides will be posted online.
Homework assignments must be completed and turned in on time. No late work will be accepted. If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to present an excuse, request make up work and turn it in within one week of his/her return to class, or just go to teacher’s Wikispaces to retrieve missing work.

A poster with detailed class rules is posted in the classroom.
Support / Students can seek help before school from 7:15A.M. to 7:25 A.M., during tutorial on Tuesdays, or after school in room 225.

Additional Information:

1.  Participation: proof of class activity participation, exit tickets, and quizzes will be counted as participation grades.

2.  Quizzes are unannounced so as to gather information on what a student really knows and what an instructor needs to work on.

3.  Students are allowed to retake quizzes or tests within a week on their own time if they are willing to improve their skills.
