Title: Front line Building Attendant/ Security

Neighbourhood Housing Society (NHS) is committed to provide safe, secure, and permanent affordable housing for residents of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. We are looking for individuals that have experience working as a front-line building support worker/ security in the ever changing DTES. The front desk worker will be situated in the front office overlooking the front entrance. This position is instrumental in ensuing that the building is a safe and supportive place for the residents of our buildings. The BA must respond to situations in a non-violent and professional manner.

Responsibilities:
-Responsible for monitoring the flow of traffic in and out of the front exit. Including: maintaining a up to date log book, filling incident report form as required, answering officer phone, and security cell phone
-Maintaining daily documentation, and statistic reporting if needed by supervisor
-Monitoring on site and remote cameras. Making sure no barred guests are on site
-Maintaining building security by performing frequent building inspections. Making sure all locks, doors, and emergency exits are shut tightly. Making sure all lighting is functioning. And ensuring that there is no suspicious person on the property.
-Making sure no unwanted guest sneaks pass the lobby uninvited
-Reporting unsafe conditions, any incidents or health hazards to supervisor
-Observe and report concerning resident health problems to tenant support as needed
-Provide first response to crisis intervention as required
-Assist with general cleanliness and offering a helping hand to maintenance staff as needed
-Deal with emergencies in accordance to building procedures and document the emergencies. Including but not limited to: Flood, Fire, and Overdoses
-Performing other duties as required
Qualifications and Requirements:
-BA will have completed Secondary School, plus 1-2 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
-Willingness to adhere to the mission and values of NHS
-Fluent in English. Read and Write at Secondary School level.
-High stress tolerance, plus a good self-care plan
-Computer literate
- Microsoft Officer suite
- Windows OS
- Keyscan system VII (will provide training)
- iVMS-4200 and Samsung Smart Viewer (will provide training)
-Must have or be willing to obtain Conflict Resolution Training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, and harm reduction training
-Must be able to work independently or in a team setting during days of peak traffic
-Must be professional and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
-Must have Basic First Aid and CPR (OFA1)
-Must have Narcan training
-Basic Security Licence an asset
-Experienced in working in the DTES with residents dealing with addiction, mental health, and welfare issues
-Criminal Records Review Act clearance – working with vulnerable people
-Available for day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts
-Proof of minimum of 2 years sobriety of drugs and alcohol
