Wrap Around Care – Reception to Year 6
All of our wrap-around care runs during term-time only.
Breakfast club runs from 8.00am until school begins and offers a choice of healthy breakfast options including a daily cooked breakfast option. All meals are prepared on-site by Malvern Catering Company. Breakfast is served to the children in a ‘family’ style seating arrangement. The children are encouraged to use their manners and to talk to the other children on their table. Breakfast is then followed by a whole group activity session until school begins.
After-School Club runs from 3.20 until 6pm. Children can be booked in for one hour, two hours or the full session. The children are provided with a number of activities to choose from including traditional games, sports, forest school, ICT, craft and cooking. There is also a quiet area for children to relax after a busy day at school. Directors are pleased with the sustained academic progress throughout the school. Not only is the school achieving higher than national average figures, but analysis demonstrates a high level of “value added” from entry into the school in reception.
The school teaching staff identified three prime targets for 2015/2016 to further enrich pupils’ learning:-
Ø A focus on Special Needs learning
Ø Consolidation of Pupil Premium learning
Ø A new Science/Technology/ICT curriculum
CLASS STRUCTURES
Children are taught in single year age groups, with two classes in each age group. The children register with their class teacher and are then taught in two sets for Mathematics and English from Year 1 to Year 6.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Mr Sam Burnage is the designated member of staff to support Special Needs pupils.
He works with targeted groups on a regular basis during the week.
In addition the school employs Learning Coaches to work with pupils throughout the school. This support is carefully planned to enable the staff to work alongside small groups during the literacy and numeracy hour.
The school aims to assess pupils who will require special needs tuition as early in their schooling as possible in order to establish early remedies.
Somers Park purchases specialist advice, such as Psychologists, to support special needs.

CHARGING
The school believes in offering a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and visits to enrich the children’s education. There is a strong sense of commitment to this from teachers, governors, and parents.
Teaching staff are very careful to plan activities to match learning needs.
There are two forms of funding:
1. School day time activities.
Voluntary contributions are invited to support extra activities. Staff frequently sends out a letter of response to investigate support. The truth is that if support is not forthcoming, the activity cannot take place. The current practice is that parents highly value the quality experiences offered.
IF ANY PARENT HAS DIFFICULTY FINDING THE FUNDS TO SUPPORT ACTIVITIES, THE SCHOOL CAN HELP. THE HEAD TEACHER SHOULD BE APPROACHED FOR CONFIDENTIAL HELP.
2. Activities out of school hours.
These activities are charged for and payments must be committed. Once again the school can be approached for support.
School also offers bursaries and grants to families to support these activities. Families are discretely chosen according to child development need.
