The drugs “scene” is rapidly changing. This masterclass has been developed to provide an understanding of the up-to-date drug use in Sheffield.

This master class will consider:

  • The common drugs of misuse in Sheffield from “traditional” heroin and cocaine to the more recent and fast growing synthetic cannabinoids, opioids and others;
  • What they look like and how they are taken;
  • How different drugs may impact on a person’s physical and mental health, well-being and behaviour;
  • How and where an adult can access drug and alcohol treatment and support;

New Psycho-Active Substances (NPS) and the Young Person Substance Misuse Screening Tool

Monday 26 March 2018, 2.30pm – 4.00pm

The Corneris a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for young peopleaged 10-18in Sheffield. We offer advice and supportto young peoplein the Sheffield area who are experiencing problems with drugs and alcohol.
This master class will consider:

•New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), and the effects, risks and harms of using them

•The legislation that now controls NPS

•The changing drug markets, in particular the online drug trade

•The use, risks and harms of Synthetic Cannabinoids Receptor Agonists (SCRAs)

•Harm reduction techniques to help effectively work with people using NPS (harm reduction in the face of limited information)

•Support to use a screening tool to assess young people using unknown substances (such as New Psychoactive Substances).

•Training to use a substance misuse screening tool for young people to help refer appropriately and give confidence for professionals

•The cycle of change – what it means for the adult and what it means for their children;

Charging For Non-Attendance at Safeguarding Children Training; Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this charge being introduced and when will it be applied?

The demand for places on training courses is high and we want to make sure every place booked is a place used.

A cancellation charge will be applied for all places cancelled with less than 5 working days’ notice, unless exceptional circumstances apply (see below).

  • Staff have called in sick on the day using agreed reporting policies and procedures.
  • Notice of the need to cancel the place has been received by the safeguarding children training service [by email or telephone] at least 5 working days in advance of the course date.
  • You/your agency have identified a suitable substitute to attend in your place.
  • Compassionate leave has been granted.

Will all organisations be liable to the charge?

Subject to the conditions and exemptions outlined above, ALL organisations will be charged for cancellation/non-attendance on SSCB multi-agency training courses.

What is the charge and how will it be collected?

In all cases the charge is £50.00, regardless of the length of the course. Your employing organisation will be liable for this charge.

The training course application form requests a business unit code [Sheffield City Council Services] or invoicing details [non council organisations]. These will be used to claim any charges incurred.

The application form requires the applicant’ssignature and that they have discussed the financial implications of this with their line manager as evidence that they accept the terms of the charging policy.

Applications cannot be processed without these details.

If I am unable to attend a training course how do I cancel my place?

To cancel places on a training course please contact the Safeguarding Children Training Service by telephone or email.

Please cancel the place as soon as possible and at least 5 working days before the course to avoid cancellation charges.
