ATM 15/03 TO RECEIVE THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE TOWN MAYOR & CHAIRMAN OF THE TOWN COUNCIL

Good evening to you all and welcome to our Annual Town Meeting. I suppose I should do the bad news first. We are disappointed that the proposed Tesco Store has still not been occupied and we hope that during the forthcoming months a new tenant can be found. We continue to work with the landlord to keep the building tidy but it would certainly help if we could get someone in.

Also after 2 long years, NELC have still not managed to resolve the illegal lorry parking, but I am hopeful that with the coming of the new by-pass and the introduction of the HGV restriction on Pelham Rd, the situation should at least improve.

However apart from those two issues it has certainly been another exciting and productive year for the town.

The A160 improvements are now well underway and they will make a great contribution to the infrastructure of the town. On our fringes, ABLE’s marine energy park continues to grow too and whilst the movement from coal to biomass has had some effect on our port operator, the reduction in coal stocks has seen us be able to remove the stigma of the air quality management area.

The possible, although somewhat long winded closure of the Resource Centre and now the Bert Boyden Centre have cut community resources in the town, but plans are in hand to ensure that going forward there is still sufficient capacity for the needs of all our groups and services.

This has been without doubt a pivotal year for the Town Council with the construction of the Community Hub. Plans were first mooted for this 6 years ago and we have been actively pursuing this goal now for the past 2 years. We are now within sight of the finishing post of what will be a fantastic project both for the Council and the town. We look forward to working

In addition the creation of the Garden of Remembrance will be a beautiful asset in the coming years, something which the Town Council can be truly proud of. I would mention our sponsors and helpers with this project, Costain for delivering the footings, One Voice for the grant funding from the 100 fund and In Bloom for the gardens. And whilst mentioning that, I want to again mention the contribution that Immingham in Bloom makes to the town.

All year round the town is made to look that much better and by winning Gold again during the year, and qualifying for Britain in Bloom, Hopefully we will be successful again in both competitions during the year.

I also want to mention the project at Roval Drive. This will be another feather in our cap and a cracking project for the town.

And finally I want to remember our ex town Councillor and dear friend Len Roberts who passed away during the year. He was a great servant of this Council and a gentleman.

ATM 15/04 Public Questions

A member asked if NELC were ever going to do anything about parking enforcement as the problem was getting worse. Also why were skips allowed on the verges?

Was the Able project still going ahead as all seemed quiet?

Meeting Closed 6.45pm
