Creating grids in Clicker 5
Also, see videos on Moodle to revise use of Clicker
Creating your grid
Create a New Grid Set
Choose your template and Create
Hold down ‘Shift’ (key for capitals) and click in the cell you wish to add text to/edit. The cursor will appear. Start writing
For more options, go to Edit – Edit Mode
Clicking on a cell, you can move it around or resize it.
To save your work
Go to File – Save Grid Set (rather than saving the document itself – that would be done when the children are using the grid)
You can delete the cell by right-mouse clicking on it.
Within this menu you also have ‘Properties’
Changing background colour and adding/removing pictures
In ‘Appearance’ you can change the background colour of a cell.
You can choose pictures from your computer
Making a series of grids
Go to the Grid menu and Add Grid. Again, choose a template as above.
Each grid automatically has a forward arrow for you to move to the next grid.
On your 2nd, 3rd grid, etc. you can go back using the back navigation button just above the grid.
Adding your own buttons
You may wish to add your own button with an appearance consistent with the ‘forward’ button.
In Edit Mode, open the Cell Palette:
Choose a ‘back’ button and drag it onto the left hand side of your grid. This button will now link back to the previous grid.
To change the order of your grids
In Edit – Edit mode click on Explorer. Drag and drop your grids to the desired order
To link to a grid which is not in sequential order
You will need to have adding grids (see Making a Series of Grids). In Edit – Edit Mode, right mouse click on the cell or button you wish to trigger the move to another grid. Right mouse click and choose Properties.
Now, clicking on the cell (e.g. the first teddy) should take you to a grid with word bank support about that teddy.
To get free downloadable Clicker grids from LearningGrids.com
Go to www.learninggrids.com
Register.
To create books in Clicker
Go to File – New Grid Set
Choose Book Making. Edit your book in the same way as you have created the grids above.
Note for using Clicker as an MFL tool
You can record your own words to link to the written words in cells.
In Cell Properties, choose the ‘Sound and Video’ tab. This would be time consuming, however.
In edit mode the speech language can be changed. In addition the Picture and Sound palettes can be changed to another language in Picture and Sound Library settings – Properties. We have Spanish at York St John. (This ‘speech engine’ needs to be bought separately from Clicker, and costs around £100)
