DCU ATHLETICS ACADEMY WEEKEND UPDATE

There were many outstanding performances from DCU athletes at the AAI Games on Sunday but star performer of the day must be David Mc Carthy who set a new indoor 1500m PB (3.39.14) and a qualifying time for the World Indoors in March.

In the same race, both John Coghlan (3.43.31) and Joe Warne (3.43.62) also set new PB’s. On track, Craig Lynch experienced the high’s and low’s of athletics in about 10secs – 6.88 for the 60m (fastest of the day) and within 3secs, a very hasty ankle (freak) injury in trying to slow down!!! [Indoor season started and finished within about 10secs].

Our other sprinters were very busy on the day too – Steven Colvert (6.91 in the 60m),Mark Kavanagh (7.22 in 60m, 22.26 in 200m), Catherine Mc Manus (8.64 in 60mH, 7.59 in 60m and 24.97 in 200m), Sarah Murray (7.86 in 60m and 25.78 in 200m), Sarah Mc Carthy (7.85 in 60m and 5.76 in LJ), Louise Kiernan (7.74 in the 60m and 24.88 in the 200m), Katie Brennan (8.11 in the 60m), Danny Kavanagh (7.29 in 60m), Shauna Cannon (55.15 in the 400m), Karen Dunne (61.17 in 400m), Darren Watters (52.89 in the 400m) and Daire Farrell (51.89 in the 400m).

In the jumps, Kourosh Foroughi jumped 2.11 in the HJ and 6.53 in the LJ, not to mention 7.50 for the 60m and 11.71m in the Shot. Cathriona Farrell equalled her PB with 1.80m in the HJ, Conor Daly jumped 13.42m in the TJ, Michael Bowler jumped 6.45m in the LJ, 1.80 in the HJ and a 51.83 for 400m. Shane Aston had an easy day and ran a 8.62 for the 60m (these combined athletes like to do plenty), Keith Doherty vaulted 4.00m in the PV, Shauna Daly (10.50 in the Shot) edged her sister Emma (9.77m) while Saragh Buggy had a LJ personal best of 5.48m.

Other distance runs included Bronagh Furlong (2.13.60 in the 800m), Darragh Greene (1.53.18 in the 800m), Deirdre Doyle (4.37.11 in the 1500m) and Mary Ann O Sullivan (2.12 something in the 800m but later disQ’d for a lane infringement)...... definitely some outstanding performances!!! [Hopefully, we have not omitted any of our athletes, if so – our sincere apologies]
