As one of your constituents, living in (insert your place of residence) and teaching in (insert your school or college, or geographical place of work) I am writing out of concern on a local and national level about the effects of current government policy on art, craft and design education.

Since the implementation of The Importance of Teaching: The Schools White Paper, published in 2010, art, craft and design education has been consistently undermined. Despite a period of consultation, the review of the National Curriculum did not provide the world class and inspiring curriculum our young people need and deserve. The English Baccalaureate as a performance measure is impacting on pupil choice at key stage 3-4, museum and gallery visits, specialist teaching staff, professional development and the perceived value of the subject especially in state schools.

The survey 2014 findings of the National Society for Education in Art and Design supports my concerns.

As a member of the National Society for Education in Art and Design I was delighted to read that the NSEAD Manifesto for Art, Craft and Design Education has recently been endorsed by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Art, Craft and Design Education. The Manifesto provides seven evidence-based proposals and I would welcome your thoughts on how you may wish to tackle all or any of them within your constituency or indeed on a national level.

Art craft and design education provides our children and young people with the skills to engage as confident citizens and future professionals to the culture, creativity, economic success, leisure, material and emotional wellbeing of our society within local, national and global contexts.
