TOPIC: KINDNESS MATTERS

British Prime Minister, writer and artist, Winston Churchill once said: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

This week’s Kindness Challenge is to make 10 small paper hearts and put kind sayings on them - like paper versions of candy hearts. Leave these in random places throughout the week as a surprise pick-me-up for whoever finds them.

TOPIC: LEUKEMIA LYMPHOMA SOCIETY FUNDRAISER

Student Council: There is an all council work meeting today after school in room 207.

How High for Who update: In a come from behind victory, Dr. Denny is the new winner of the teacher dare competition. He has agreed to wear a red Mohawk!

Guess the Baby Competition: In a tight race, Kenya Rabadan won the Guess the Baby competition, guessing 13 of 18 pictures correctly, and getting her ballot in less than an hour before Art Hernandez also guessed 13 of 18 pictures correctly. Kenya's 2nd period class--Mr. Elkin's AP Stats--receives an additional $28 for their Pasta for Pennies box. If you're interested in who the teachers were, watch the power point during lunches today.

The winner for the Pennies for Pasta competition will be announced tomorrow!

TOPIC: JUNIOR CLASS

Want to make this Valentine’s Day Special. The junior class is sponsoring a photo booth in the cafeteria on the Thursday before Valentine’s Day. Tickets are either $5 or $2. Check with your math teacher for details.

TOPIC: VOLUNTEER HOURS

You only have another five weeks to get your volunteer hours turned in to Mrs. Scholtz or Mrs. Ray on the English hall.

March 13 is the LAST day that you can submit your fifty hours so that you can be recognized with the silver cord at graduation.It will be here before you know it! Hours must be not only complete but also submitted by March 13.

TOPIC: SOFTBALL CONCESSION HELP

Attention Patriots softball needs your help in the concession stand for Tuesday and Friday games please see Mrs. Martinka at the diamond to sign up. This is a great way to gain needed service hours.

TOPIC: SWIMMING

Please congratulate your patriot swimmers who competed at the region v swim championships this past weekend. The girls placed 16 and the boys placed 14 out of 24 teams. More detailed results to follow.

TOPIC: EVHS CHEER/MASCOT TRYOUTS

If you are interested in trying out for cheerleader or mascot you and a parent/guardian must attend one of following meetings. The mandatory meetings will be held in the Lecture Hall at EVHS at 6:30pm on Monday, February 9th or Thursday, February 12th. At that time you will need to bring completed application and your signed forms from your constitution. Tryout Clinics are in the EVHS gym March 9-12th4pm – 6pm. Tryouts will be on Friday, March 13th.

TOPIC: GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Lady Patriot basketball teamsplit 2 games last week. They movedahead in the battle for the final 25-5A playoff spot with a crucial 51-41win over Dripping Springs on Tuesday. A 9% shooting effort in the first half of Friday's Georgetown game effectively ended that game early althoughthe team came back to splitthe second half with 17points for each team. The final score was 50-26 with the Lady Patriots shooting 17% on the night.

In the Dripping Springs game, Abby Holland was game high scorer with 15, also adding 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Diamond Morrison had 12 points on 50% shooting. Bailee Broddrick went 3 for 5 from the arc, tallying 11 points total. Emily Daniel had 5 assists and Rachel Wisian pulled down 6 boards.

Against Georgetown,reserves Lina Mendoza and Danielle Pugh were ourmost productive players. Danielle was East View's leading scorer with 7 points on 50% shooting. Lina had 7 rebounds and added 4 points.

The team plays away atLeander on Tuesday night. A win assures the number4playoff spot. A loss probably would mean a 3 way tiefor 4th with Leander and Dripping Springs.

TOPIC: SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

There are a lot of scholarships out there both locally, state and nationally. Many state and national ones can be found on our EVHS Counselors website under the scholarship link. Please stop by the College and Career Center in the Counselors Office to pick up local scholarship applications. For questions about scholarships please contact Mrs. Lewis in the counselor’s office.
