2.JUSTIFICATION
A) Explain why this course is being proposed, including its relationship to the overall curriculum and goals of the college. A list of course objectives must be included in the explanation and a description of how they relate to the program learning outcomes.
Information technology has a very rapid rate of change. This course will allow professors the flexibility to introduce new,innovative, technologies without disrupting the current curriculum. Individual topics are up to the professor, but should be based on skills needed to meet industry demand. Students will be providedwith up-to-date knowledge and skills of emerging technologies in a timely manner. New course proposals may not provide as rapid a turnaround time. Professors can use the course to introduce topics related to their research interests. In addition, it can serve as a useful gauge of student interest for predicting future trends in the existing curriculum.
The course will provide students with additional ITEC electives. The individual topic and curriculum will be determined by the instructor with approval of the ITEC curriculum review committee. Examples of special topics include but are not limited to Green Technology, Introduction to Robotics, ERP Applications and Business Information Systems Applications.
ITEC Course Outcome Goals include:
(1) Expose students to current Industry technology and applications
(2) Teach the Theoretical aspects of current applications
(3) Review the impact of applications on society (e.g. – health care, business, government, education,…)
(4) Forecast the future direction of Technology Applications

Prerequisite: ITEC major/minor, “C” or better in ITEC 2150.
In this course, concepts in special topics in the field of Information Technology will be introduced. The individual topic and curriculum will be determined by the instructor.

This course will be limited to undergraduate ITEC majors and minors that are seeking elective course credit hours.
6. IMPACT ON STUDENTS and FACULTY:
A) Students. Indicate if the proposal increases or decreases credits or requirements for students; involves an off-campus investment of time; imposes any unusual or new opportunities for students. Does the proposal change the total credits required for any degree?No the proposed course does not increase or decrease credits or requirements for students. The course or its equivalent is required in the “Additional Electives” section of the catalog plan for all 3 ITEC tracks.
B) Faculty. Indicate whether or not the elements of the proposal can be supported with existing faculty and how this can be done. If not, describe how many new positions would be needed to support the recommendations in the proposal. Indicate if the administration has been consulted in the event of needed increases in faculty. Provision of this information does not guarantee that any changes in faculty will be forthcoming even though the proposal is approved by the Curriculum Committee and forwarded to the Vice President with a recommendation for approval.
The course can be supported with existing faculty. The existing ITEC faculty should be qualified to teach most topics in this 3000-level ITEC elective course. Certain topics may be new to some faculty but still at a level where most faculty can cover it. If not, the faculty member can audit the course for 1 semester before teaching it.
