1.Job Purpose
This position is responsible to manage and maintain the Children and Young Adult collection to meet the needs of the Geraldton Regional Library and the Mullewa Public Library.
To assist in the coordination, development and promotion of programs, projects and services for children and young people. To liaise with internal and external customers, take advantage of modern technology and be committed to high quality customer service.
Ensure a professional work environment and strive to continuously improve team work processes and effectiveness in the work area as well as across the organisation.
2.Organisational Context
The position of Young People’s Services Team Leader is part of the Libraries & Heritage Services branch within the Development & Community Services Department. In total, 4 branches report to the Development & Community Services Director. Other departments include Community & Cultural Development, Land & Regulatory Services and Urban & Regional Development.
3.Key Accountabilities
- Participate in Library Teamwork and participate in the professional management team of the Library
- Collection management, promotion and development
- Contribute to the supervision of clerical staff and volunteers
- Assist in developing and delivering programs and extension services to promotelifelong learning and literacy to children, young adults and parents
- Assist in library circulation activities
- Participate in library promotion, outreach and associated services

5.Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualification in Library and Information Management or related humanities field or Diploma level qualification with significant relevant experience
- Current Working with Children Check (or commitment to obtain prior to commencing employment)
- ‘C’ Class driver’s licence
- Sound experience of supervision of staff at a senior level
- Sound experience in executing educational and community based events for young people and children
Knowledge and Skills
- Sound knowledge of Library procedures, programs, policies and activities with particular emphasis on children and youth
- Sound knowledge of automated Library systems, computer literacy and current social media networking skills
- Sound knowledge of collection development in a Library context
- Sound knowledge of Council structure and services
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to communicate and relate effectively to people of all ages, particularly children and young adults.
- Demonstrated values of service, trust, accountability, respect and solidarity and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement principles.
