NO. R-248. House concurrent resolution congratulating South Burlington Superintendent of Schools, Bruce Chattman, on his selection as the 2003 Vermont Superintendent of the Year.

Whereas, quality education in our state’s public schools requires outstanding leadership from the pinnacle of each school district’s administration, and
Whereas, annually, the Vermont Superintendents’ Association selects a Vermont Superintendent of the Year and presents the designated individual, an outstanding municipal or regional educational administrator, the Frederick H. Tuttle Service Award, and
Whereas, this award commemorates the career of the former South Burlington Public School Superintendent who died in 1992 after a brave fight against cancer, and
Whereas, it is most fitting that Bruce Chattman, who, in 1993, succeeded Frederick Tuttle as South Burlington’s superintendent, and who has held this post with great distinction for the past decade, be selected as the 2003 Vermont Superintendent of the Year, and
Whereas, under Superintendent Chattman’s inspired leadership, the South Burlington Public Schools have raised academic standards and expanded both early childhood education programs and education partnerships with public and private sector entities, and
Whereas, the Vermont Business Roundtable recently recognized South Burlington’s outstanding technology education curriculum when the organization named the district’s Orchard School a Gold Medallion School, and
Whereas, Bruce Chattman has been described as an educator who “has a passion to see kids served well,” now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates South Burlington Superintendent Bruce Chattman on his selection as the 2003 Vermont Superintendent of the Year, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Bruce Chattman at the administrative offices of the South Burlington Public Schools.
