Standalone ION Enterprise 6 Installation -
Windows 2008 R2 / SQL 2005 Standard 64bit, or
Windows 2008 64bit SP2/ SQL 2005 Standard 64bit
Introduction
This document describes the installation procedure of a new ION Enterprise 6 SP1 system with the following parameters:
· Server topology - Standalone system with one server housing the ION database, application, and web services.
· Operation System (assumed already installed)
- Windows 2008 R2 (64bit), or
- Windows 2008 64bit SP2
· SQL Server Version - SQL Server 2005 Standard (64bit)
Before you start
· Have SQL 2005 Server Standard (64bit) installation CD
· Have SQL 2005 Server Standard Service Pack 3
· Have ION Enterprise 6.0.1 CD (build 1300 has Service Pack 1 included)

1. Install Internet Information Services (IIS)
-Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager
-Under Roles Summary click Add Roles and check Web Server (IIS)
-Expand each sub-folder and ensure the following IIS options are checked:

2. Register 64 bit ASP.Net
Ensure you are logged in as THE administrator and not just a user with administrator privileges! Alternatively you can run an elevated command prompt. But either way you will need the administrator password. To run an elevated command prompt, right click a command prompt shortcut and Run As Administrator.

-Ensure IIS is working: In Internet Explorer type: http://localhost/
If IIS did not install successfully and you do not see this screen, then stop and resolve before continuing with the install!
3. Install SQL 2005 Standard 64bit
Insert the SQL 2005 installation CD…
Under the Install heading, click “Server components, tools, Books Online, and samples”
If you get the “This program has known compatibility issues” popup, click Run program…
Accept the terms > Next
Installing Prerequisites > Install
Next > Next > ensure System Configuration Check succeeded with no errors or warnings
> Next
Registration Information: fill in as required > Next
Components to Install:
- SQL Server Database Services
- Reporting Services
- Workstation components, Books Online and development tools
Next
Instance Name: create a named instance called “ION”
Service Account: Use the built-in System Account “Local System”, check SQL Server Agent to start
Authentication Mode: use Mixed Mode
Enter sa password (ION!Everywhere)
Collation Settings: leave as default
Report Server Installation Options: Install the default configuration
Install
**If you get a “This program has known compatibility issues” popup during the install, click Run Program**
4. Apply SQL 2005 service pack 3
Run the service pack installer with default settings
click Run program
Reboot!
5. Configure Reporting Services Virtual Roots
Start > run > type: inetmgr
Left pane, select Application Pools
Middle pane, select Classic .Net AppPool
Right pane, click Advanced Settings…
Make the following modifications if needed:
Enable 32-Bit Applications = True
Managed Pipeline Mode = Classic
Identity = NetworkService
Middle pane, select ReportServer$ION
Right pane, click Advanced Settings
Make the following modifications if needed:
Enable 32-Bit Applications = False
Managed Pipeline Mode = Classic
Identity = NetworkService
6. Edit Handler Mappings
Still in IIS Manager, in the left pane, select Default Web Site
In the middle pane, double click Handler Mapping
In the right pane, click Edit Feature permissions…
Also check the handler mappings for the virtual roots Reports$ION and ReportServer$ION and make sure the Feature Permissions are set to “Execute”.
7. Verify that you can browse the virtual roots
http://localhost/Reports$ION
http://localhost/ReportServer$ION.
Note: Resolve any virtual root issues before continuing!
8. Install ION Enterprise 6.0
Insert the ION Enterprise CD…
Click Run Setup > Install Server > Primary Server > SQL Instance
Install any required components
Next > accept the terms in the license agreement > Next > type Product Key > Next
Select SQL Server Instance: select the local “ION” instance > Next
Click Yes to continue
Select File Destinations – it is recommended to leave the default settings
Next > Install
9. Run ION Enterprise 6 Service Pack 1
Double click ServicePack1.exe on the ION Enterprise CD.
Next > Finish
